Frankie replied: 'It was a pleasure. It was so lovely you all seemed so proud.'

For the event, the singer wore a black dress with white collar, which she described as 'a little like Wednesday Addams'.

Frankie went public with her battle with depression in March after she spent a month in hospital seeking treatment for her illness in October 2011.

She admitted she had battled negative thoughts and panic attacks on and off since she was 15, but things spiralled last year.

In the run-up to seeking treatment, Frankie found herself arguing with footballer boyfriend Wayne Bride over trivial things and questioning her looks, talent and personality.

She told Glamour magazine earlier this year: 'One night, I got upset because Wayne hadn't bought the right yoghurts. I manage to convince myself he didn't know me at all.

'It set off this spiral of negative thinking – that if I disappeared, it wouldn’t matter to anyone. In fact, it would make everybody’s life easier. I felt that I was worthless, that I was ugly, that I didn’t deserve anything.'

Among the winners at last night's ceremony were Piers Morgan's Life Stories, which has featured celebrities including Frank Bruno, Rolf Harris, Peter
Andre and Paul Gascoigne speaking about their mental health and Emmerdale, for their portrayal of Zak Dingle's depression.
