Axed Nicole Scherzinger puts on a brave face… as Paula Abdul fumes over X Factor USA firing
Perhaps it's because her sacking was hardly a shock after the egregious reviews she received during her brief tenure as X Factor judge, but Nicole Scherzinger seems to be handling the news much better than Paula Abdul.
The 33-year-old kept her head held high as she arrived back in Los Angeles from New York today, and looked pretty and composed.
The former Pussycat Doll confirmed the news on Twitter, but has made no response to the disappointing development other than to insist that she will now be freed up to focus on her music.
Head held high: Nicole Scherzinger looked lovely as she flew into LAX from New York today
Paula, on the other hand, can barely contain her wrath and made a statement laced with hurt and disbelief.
The 49-year-old star, who is close to Simon Cowell, said: 'I’ve learned through my longevity in this industry that business decisions often times override personal considerations.'
And according Radar Online, she is taking the news more badly than even her thinly veiled statement would suggest.
They claim that the star – who turns 50 in June – first had an idea that she wouldn't be returning from Steve Jones, 34 , to whom she is close.

He knew of his fate, and had heard rumours that Abdul would also be cut from the show's second season.
Radar quote their source as saying: 'Paula loved doing the show and was blindsided by the news.
Everyone is afraid this is going to send her into a deep depression and cause her to revisit some of her old destructive behavior.'
'After talking to Steve, Paula phoned Simon to ask him if the rumors were true, and he admitted that the powers that be at Fox didn’t think she was ‘edgy’ enough to be brought back, but that he was working on trying to convince them to keep her on.
Composed: The brunette smiled contently as the cameras clicked away for her arrival
Low-profile: Paula nipped out to a beauty supply store just under two weeks ago, according to Radar she already knew her job was in the balance
'And he told her if by some twist of fate he couldn’t save her job, he would line something else up for her soon.'
They continued: 'It was actually Simon’s lawyer who phoned her two days ago to tell her they made the decision to axe her, and although part of her expected the news, she was shocked.'
'She loved doing the show and never thought Simon would let her go…again…this makes twice that he’s booted her from the judging chair – once on Idol and now X Factor – and she says she doesn’t know if she can trust him again even if he does come up with another project for her.'
The way they were: Paula, Simon and Nicole were full of hope at the show's December launch in Hollywood
So close: Paula and Simon were great friends, but will their bond survive this betrayal
'Paula heard they want to replace her and Nicole with Mariah and Beyonce,' said the insider, 'and she didn’t see any difference between her and them – unless you consider the fact they are both a lot younger and they both just became new moms.
'Paula will be really upset if one of those women ends up filing her chair, because neither woman has ever been on a panel and she doesn’t know what makes Simon, or anyone else, think someone inexperienced like that will help boost ratings.
'Simon is doing his best to blame the firings on Fox – but like Paula says, ‘Studio Execs obviously have a lot to say about what happens on their shows, but come on, I find it hard to believe anyone is going to tell Simon Cowell what to do.’
