'This competition has definitely changed since I was on it': Leona Lewis is shocked by what passes as talent on the X Factor

A cheeky chappy from just outside Brighton gave Leona Lewis a very memorable return to the X Factor when he stole the show.
The most successful contestant to ever be produced from the programme was not exactly impressed when one less than talented wannabe charmed his way through to the next stage of the competition.
As Leona took her seat as the guest judge she was overwhelmed by performer Eddy String and confessed that the show had definitely changed since her time on it.
Return of the champion: Former X Factor winner Leona Lewis was left surprised by how much the show had changed since her first audition
Eddy bounced onto the stage proudly wearing a pair of women's jeans as he explained to Gary Barlow that he changed his name to make himself less boring.
He said: 'My stage name is Eddy String. My real name is Ed Wilkinson, I’ve got a problem with it so I had to create a stage name.'
Gary asked him how audiences respond to the new name and the cocky wannabe got the O2 crowd to tell him which was better.
Old faces: Judge Louis Walsh gave her a warm welcome as she joined the panel as a special guest for a few days
Shock horror: Leona was glad to return to the show that made her a star but was not prepared for some of the acts
His charisma and jokes were coming thick and fast and Gary asked him: 'Are you auditioning as a singer today or a comedian'
He sharply answered: 'No I’m auditioning to be a singer, it’s the premise of the show.'
With the niceties out of the way he belted out, rather weakly, Last Night by The Strokes, as he ran around the audience and took full advantage of his moment in the spotlight.
Cocky kid: Eddy String took to the stage in a pair of women's jeans and a leather jacket as he cracked jokes and verbally sparred with Gary Barlow
A cliche: The young wannabe jumped onto the desk of the judges and gave them a close-up performance
The messy haired crooner was even hugged by a group of girls as if he really was a bona fide rock star.
Despite his vocal performance not being up to scratch he still won over the judges as he mounted their table and gave them a close-up rendition of the song.
With his show stopping performance over, Leona said: 'I really enjoyed it, I felt your energy. I couldn’t really hear a lot of the vocals so I’d be interested to hear more.'
High hopes: The singer was not short of confidence as he jumped up on the table with the crowd screaming
Ladies man: Tulisa and Leona were won over by the teenager even though his vocals were not that great or strong
Lap of honour: Eddy was a surrising hit with the audience who clapped and hugged him as he ran past them
Tulisa was equally impressed and said: 'Eddy when you first came on stage I honestly believed that it was going to be more cheese string than Eddy String. I have to say, I loved it.'
Gary warned him about his potential to be annoying and said: 'Great energy, just let me say one thing, the personality thing is on the edge of being annoying, just tone it back one bit.'
With four yes' from the judges Eddy went through to the bootcamp stage as Leona confessed: 'This competition has definitely changed since I was on it!'
Flat out: Eddy had to lie down after his performance as the judges all said yes to him and he went through to the next round
