He's previously claimed their constant jibing at each other on The X Factor is purely 'banter'.
But it would seem Rylan Clark has had just about enough of Gary Barlow's critical remarks after hitting out at the judge in an explosive Twitter rant.
The 24-year-old hopeful's outburst came after Gary reportedly told attendees at a charity event for Mencap earlier this week that he thought Rylan was 'absolute sh**e'.
Spat: Rylan Clark (L) has hit out at Gary Barlow in an explosive Twitter rant after the X Factor judge reportedly branded the hopeful 'absolute sh**e'
At the charity event, Gary asked the audience: 'I'm serious. What are we going to do about Rylan I might have to be honest on Saturday night and go, “Rylan, I thought that was absolute s**te”.'
He then asked his fans what they thought of the eccentric Essex boy, when they are said to have started booing and chanting, 'Get him out!', to which Gary replied: 'I'm glad you agree!'
And after weeks of hitting back at the Take That singer's comments with playful remarks, it seems Rylan took it to heart.
Honoured: Gary Barlow received an OBE on Wednesday for services to the entertainment industry and charity
Writing on his Twitter page, Rylan said: '”I'd rather be 'absolute s***' than just stand there and sing the same old stuff every week on the spot… #boreme @GBarlowOfficial.'
He added: 'And I entered the x factor… NOT the voice… cheers.'
On Wednesday, Gary – who has spent more than 20 years in the entertainment industry – was honoured with an OBE by Queen Elizabeth II for services to the entertainment industry and to charity.
The 41-year-old star masterminded the triumphant Diamond Jubilee concert – staged at the Palace during a special bank holiday weekend in June – which featured a host of stars including Stevie Wonder and Sir Paul McCartney who played to a televised audience of millions.
Although Rylan deleted his tweet soon after, he later let rip with a massive rant at those who have criticised him, explaining he is having to cope with his mother being 'seriously ill' as well as receiving homophobic abuse.
Emotional: Rylan admitted he had been the victim of homophobic abuse
Hitting back: Rylan hit back at Gary's comments on his Twitter page
Starting his tirade, Rylan posted a magazine article comparing him to Gary, saying: 'We've all got to start somewhere….. #dontforgetwhereyoucamefrom.'
He added: 'Don't think people understand some of the stuff that I get sent day in and day out. Some of you should be locked away for your comments regarding my sexuality, it's absolutely disgraceful.
'Imagine that was your son or brother that was receiving those messages enough is enough.
'I'm a 24 year old normal boy who has auditioned for Xfactor, never come from money, my mother is seriously ill, and not once have I used that as a sob story or a reason to validate my place on the show, I would rather be judged on the reason why I'm actually on the show to sing and perform.
Jibes: Gary Barlow has made no secret of his dislike for Rylan
Continuing his rant, Rylan explained he was aware he isn't the best singer in the competition, and offered a cryptic hint that not everyone in the competition is as genuine as they claim to be.
He said: 'I TOTALLY understand I haven't got the best voice in the competition but have proved that I can just stand there and sing I love to perform hence the reason I like to put on a show every Saturday night.
'For those of you that have supported me thank you do much. It means the world, unlike others, the truth will always out in the end and I look forward to the day when people see that I have been honest and genuine throughout and polite to everyone during this process.
Emotional: Rylan later hit out at those who have abused him on social networking sites
'This is me signing off and look forward to meeting everyone that has supported me throughout sometime soon. Lots of love . Rylan x (sic)'
A spokesperson for the X Factor confirmed that Rylan's mother suffers from Crohn's disease, and she is always his 'number one priority'.
Speaking to MailOnline, the spokesperson said: 'His mother suffers from Crohn's disease, which she has had for most of his life. She is always his number one priority and gets back to see her as often as he can.'
Secret strain: Rylan revealed his mother is 'seriously ill' and has been battling Crohn's disease
Until now, Rylan and Gary's relationship has been based on banter, with both parties hitting each other with seemingly friendly jibes.
Last week, Rylan poked fun at Gary for his formerly porky waistline.
After it was revealed the hopeful was a former Take That fan, Gary said: 'I wanna know which band member you were'
To which Rylan replied: 'Well, I definitely weren't you, I'm too skinny for that!'
