She came runner up in the 2010 series of the show and tonight Rebecca Ferguson made a dramatic return to the X Factor.

The 26-year-old Liverpudlian singer looked almost unrecognisable as she stepped out in a figure hugging sparkling gold catsuit.

Performing her new song Backtrack, Rebecca strutted around the stage showing off a fiery auburn wig.

Rebecca, who dated One Direction's
Zayn Malik for four months in 2011,showed off her every curve in the
revealing outfit which boasted a sheer plunging panel around the bust
and she teamed the outfit with matching shoes.

But
fans of the former X Factor contestant were not convinced with her
ensemble and took to Twitter to express their dislike for her
appearance.

One fan posted: 'LOVE Rebecca Ferguson but what on earth is wearing #xfactor.'

After
her performance Rebecca told Dermot that being part of the competition
was 'hard' and said she understood what the contestants were going
through.

When asked about who her favourite contestant was she replied: 'They are amazing,' before adding: 'I like Ella I do.'

But in a nod to Christopher Maloney Rebecca, whose new album is out tomorrow, also added that she supported him because he was a Scouse.

And it seems like Rebecca was in the mood to celebrate as she left the X Factor studio holding a glass in her hand.

The singer was beaming as she made her way to her car and she hadn't opted to change into something a little more comfortable following her performance.

Rebecca says her new look is down to the fact that she had to adapt because her old self wouldn't survive in the music industry.

She told the Daily Star: 'I can’t watch my first audition because it makes me too upset. I just think it is really sad. I look at myself and don’t recognise myself. I do think fame and fortune changes people.'

She added: 'I have had to toughen up a lot, so when I look at that I feel really sad.'

Rebecca told the current class of contestants to make sure that they control their lives and don't change underpressure from anybody.

She said: 'When I went on there I was asked to sing things and I used to say ‘no way’. You have to know who you are as an artist. If you are not happy with the song, don’t sing it. Simple as that – no one forces you to do it.'

Taylor Swift also performed on the results show tonight and took to the stage in a pair of black hot pants and a sparkling plum-coloured jumper to sing We Are Never Getting Back Together.

And despite her huge success, which includes selling more than 22million albums and bagging no less than six Grammy awards, Taylor admitted she still suffers from nerves before a performance.

She told Dermot that she was scared 'of everything' but added: 'It helps when you have an amazing audience.'

Taylor also used the opportunity to plug her new album, Red, which is set for release on October 22.
