She tweeted a photo of herself looking fresh-faced and make-up free, sparking a debate about whether or not other women would do the same – and it appears most of us would not.
Would you go bare-faced 90 per cent of British women would never go on a night out without wearing make-up
An overwhelming 91 per cent of British women confess they would never 'do a Holly Willoughby' and appear in public without wearing make-up on a night out – and one third say they would never actually leave the house before putting their 'face' on.
Furthermore, some 64 per cent would not even consider turning up at work without some degree of cosmetic retouching, and 44 per cent would never let a photo of their 'naked', make-up-free face be posted on Twitter.
The survey was done in response to the 31-year-old This Morning presenter's photo-tweet of herself, barefaced and in pyjamas, with the accompanying message: 'Lunch done, Me however still in nightie! Makeup!x'
Daily Mail columnist Liz Jones responded with an article explaining why she felt such celebrity tweets 'betrayed' women who may not feel so naturally confident without wearing make-up.
Reed, Head of Marketing at Escentual.com, the leading UK beauty website who conducted the survey, said: 'The majority of our
female customers said they would “feel naked” without their make-up in a
work setting or on a night out.
'And there’s also a significantly
large number of women who would not be happy being seen au naturel on
the weekend, and even more wouldn’t allow pictures of themselves without
make-up to go on social media.'
