If you want your friends and neighbours to know you've made it, invest in a hot tub.
According to a new report, Brits believe possessing a Jacuzzi rockets the owner to the top of the social food chain.
The item topped a list of ultimate status symbols for both men and women, with 69 per cent citing it as proof someone had made it – closely followed by a U.S. style fridge and a walk-in wardrobe.

When the genders were divided, however, the difference between the sexes crept in.
It was revealed that modern women
believe the ultimate status symbol is a walk-in wardrobe, with 45 per
cent choosing a giant closet as their status symbol, while for men,
music speakers in every room of the house speak volumes, with 34 per
cent naming them a must-have.
The results from a new survey reveal how household tastes have changed with the times.

A decade later the colour television and hostess trolley were the most sought-after, and the 1980s was the age of the microwave.
Researchers, from coffee machine brand De’Longhi, quizzed 1,960 of the nation’s males and 2,082 females to find out what they most desire in their homes today.
The results show that men and women now have very different ideas on what makes their home complete.
While the walk-in wardrobe proved the most desirable for women (45 per cent), it was a high-tech sound system with speakers in every room for men (34 per cent).
The top ten for women also included a double-swing door fridge, followed by a Hot Tub and a Range Cooker.

Mark Swift, from De’Longhi said: 'It is fascinating to see how status symbols move with the times and fashions over the decades. Some are very clearly of their time, and don’t date particularly well.
'But others become widely accepted as the years go by, to the point that eventually no home is without them.
'Styles and fashions may come and go – but it seems we will never tire of buying status symbols for the house.'

As many as 43 per cent admitted they had ‘gadget envy’ with those under 34 more susceptible than their elders.
One in five said they love to show off their latest household purchases when friends and family visited.
And 26 per cent of women said they found it more exciting to buy a new household gadget than a pair of shoes.
When asked what future status symbols might be, participants named a shower that blow dries hair and a dishwasher that puts the dishes away.
Others also dreamed of a fridge which digitally orders more food, a wardrobe that suggests outfit combinations and a manicure and pedicure machine.
