We’re 30, celibate and proud: Meet the four women whose confessional blog has made them stars of hit TV show Virgin Diaries
Three of the women who star in the new TLC show, Virgin Diaries, are evangelical Christians from BC, Canada.
And instead of looking for the “perfect man,” they insist that they are ready to be “pursued.”
Along with another friend, the Canadians have loudly declared their pride in their pure status by way of their popular blog, Confessions of a 29 year old Virgin, and say they are “cheerleaders” for virgins everywhere.
Famous four: L-R, Danielle, Amy, Lisa and Tamara, have shared their stories on their blog and are now telling their tales by way of TLC”s new show, Virgin Diaries
Speaking with the Vancouver Sun, Lisa Marziali said: “We”re in a culture filled with sex, where sex sells. Andit”s sold every day. And we believe it shouldn”t be sold.”
Rather, Miss Marziali, 30, Tamara Larson 29, nurse Danielle Michaud, 29, and Amy Schmidt, 30, all believe in the importance of “true” beauty, love and intimacy.
As Miss Larson, a “born again virgin” and care workerwho grew up in southern Ontario writes: “This isn’t about bashing sex, nope; rather a new way of viewing it; that it really is worth waiting for; it really is meant to be pure, holy, and good.”
But where their religion has given them a deep respect for themselves, the women insist that they are not looking for the unattainable dream of the “perfect man.”
Bloggers turned TV faces: Canadians, Tamara, Danielle and Lisa, left to right, started a blog, Confessions of a 29 year old Virgin, in July
Personal choice: The girls say that they while they are waiting for the right guy to come along, they are ready to be pursued
Miss Marziali told the Vancouver newspaper that far from being romantic dreamers, they are “just looking for a guy who has a heart after God, and who is man enough to pursue us.”
In fact, the girls are more than happy to be swept of their feet – providing the man is “strong in character, aleader and [has] Jesus as his centre,” the photographer said.
“We are here. We are waiting to give our hearts away. We want to be pursued.”
Their blog, which was started in July, is a place for the women to “tell their stories” rather than to preach or proselytise.
The women all have very different tales of how they came to be virgins as adults and the paths that led them to adopt the culturally unusual stance.
What began as small project has led to three of the unlikely quartet – Miss Schmidt is currently volunteering in Uganda – appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, filming for HLN”s Dr Drew Show and featuring on The Virgin Diaries, which premired last night.
As well as introducing the cast, the series opener saw newlyweds, Ryan and Shanna, preparing to consummate their marriage after a now-infamous wedding day first kiss.
