Versace offers up leopard-print baby bottles and silk sleep suits as it launches childrens” boutique in Milan

Following their successful collaboration with H&M and two knock-out catwalk shows Versace are rounding off the year by breaking into the designer baby market and have opened a brand new store in Milan.

The plush, lilac interior is adorned with giant candy canes, ornate toadstools and even boasts a four-seater roundabout for when the pampered little dears get tired of trying on the designer collection.

The Willy Wonka-like store is situated next to the Italian brand”s headquarters is solely dedicated to their children”s line, Young Versace, which launched at international children”s wear exhibition Pitti Immagine Bimbo last June, and includes clothes and accessories for both girls and boys from infancy to age twelve.

From the sparsely-filled rails hang tiny sleep suits with silk cummerbunds – a must for any style-conscious child – and delicate little dresses sit alongside leopard-print and Swarovski crystal baby bottles.

The iconic Medusa head motif looks down on the immaculate interior, which although very pretty is surely not a place for grubby little hands and tantrum-prone toddlers

Versace”s foray into the kiddie couture market follows hot on the high heels of Lanvin”s Petite range, which includes a taffetta trench coat with a 778 (€930) price tag.

Stella McCartney, Christian Dior and Dolce & Gabbana also have children”s collections with many more designers set to launch similar ventures.

After designing a pair of one-off shoes for infant style icon Suri Cruise, Roger Vivier will unveil his Jeune Fille collection in March. The child-sized ballerina pumps will cost 210 and proceeds will go to Mothers4Children.

And despite the gloomy economic outlook the baby boom continues as Vera Wang and Oscar de la Renta unleash their own brand of expensive infant wear next year. Even Victoria Beckham is toying with the idea, which is good news for baby Harper.
