Unfaithful on the Upper East Side: How New York's ritziest neighbourhoods are riddled with cheating spouses

A dating website that promotes infidelity has claimed that three affluent neighbourhoods in New York City are littered with some of the highest concentration of marital cheaters in the Greater Metropolitan Area.
According to a survey conducted by AshleyMadison.com, Manhattan's Upper East Side and Tribeca as well as Brooklyn's Park Slope all fall in the top five neighbourhoods that are filled with unfaithful partners.
The Toronto-based website, which boasts almost 14million global members, found that Great Neck, the upscale Long Island neighbourhood, contained the most marital cheaters overall.
Cheaters: A survey by AshleyMadison.com has found that New York's ritzy Upper East Side, Tribeca and Park Slope neighbourhoods contain a high concentration of cheating spouses
The site claimed that just over three per cent of Great Neck's population have signed on as members of AshleyMadison.com.
While no other specific numbers regarding the areas or even gender have been released, Noel Biderman, the website's CEO, claimed that living in a wealthy neighbourhood seems to play its part in infidelity.
The former lawyer told the New York Post: 'There seems to be a disproportionate amount of cheating spouses in affluent areas.
'In the New York area in particular, with successful people there may be more cheating going on because the more opportunity you're given – and that's the reason you see athletes, celebrities and politicians involved in affairs – the more other people thrust themselves at you.'
Pinpointed: The website provided an amusing look at the naughtiest areas but the findings are far from funny
The survey compared census data to the area codes inserted by the website's members.
A spokesman told MailOnline that although cheating has 'traditionally been seen as a male preserve', females are also guilty of succumbing to temptation.
Shari Cogan, manager of public relations, said: 'It is married women who are driving the growth [of our website]. Female infidelity is on the rise and here to stay.
'Over the past two years, AshleyMadison.com has seen the biggest growth rate amongst women between the ages of 25 and 34.'
'For men, we've found that infidelity usually comes into play when children come on to the scene'
While neither Mr Biderman or Ms Cogan
have produced very much statistical evidence to back their findings, the
CEO claimed that the circumstances that lead each cheating gender to
stray, tend to differ.
He said: 'For women, the more successful
they are, the more likely they are to cheat. For men, we've found that
infidelity usually comes into play when children come on to the scene.
'Their personal sex lives dramatically change, and for many men, it's their first foray into adultery.'
He explained further that some men spend 'so much time working for others' that they eventually begin to 'want something for themselves.'
He said that nine million of his website's users live within the U.S. and that 508,000 of them live in the greater New York metropolitan area.
