I'm a bit of fiend with a sewing
machine! As a teenager, I aspired to be a Mod – so I'd be running up
skirts and tops for my friends as we couldn't afford to buy much then.
had actually planned to study fashion and be a designer, but then my
modelling career took off and that was that.
I still love to make clothes,
curtains or cushions. Just put me in a fabric shop and I will be lost
for hours. It is my main form of relaxation.
I take a lot of pleasure from my baby grand piano, which I bought when I was in the U.S. in 1975 and got shipped here. It is a focal piece in the house and has lots of framed photographs of the family on the top.
Sadly, I don't play. I did take lessons about ten years ago, but I didn't get very far. My stepson Jason plays really well. I find if we have friends over, there is always someone who can play the piano, so often a dinner party will end up with a bit of a singsong.
I wish people still wrote letters. My friend Mary, who lives in California, and I, have written to each other for years. I have all her letters. When I was younger, and travelling a lot, I used to love writing to my family – emails just aren't the same.
It has to be appearing in My One and Only, the Gershwin musical I did on Broadway in 1983. The show ran for two years and could have gone on.
I got to sing Gershwin songs and tap dance, and the whole audience used to be on their feet every night. I'd turn to my co-star Tommy Tune and say, 'Goal!' when that happened, as it was a bit like being at Wembley!

I love being on the stage and going to the theatre. My husband Leigh and I go the opera and ballet occasionally, but the theatre at least once a month. As I'm often in New York, I catch shows on Broadway. I recently saw War Horse which was amazing. I also adore Jersey Boys and Les Miserables, both of which I've seen at least three times.
ROOM WITH A VIEW
We have a beautiful Georgian house in a small village in Suffolk. From our bedroom window, there is a stunning view of the winding river with the marshes beyond which are home to many beautiful birds. It really is very special and something I love when we're there.

Cars have always just been a way to get from A to B for me. But we do have a Mercedes Saloon we bought in 1983, which we are about to restore. It has been mothballed but, because the children grew up in it and it is associated with so many memories, we have kept it and, hopefully, it will be back on the road soon.
Admiration: Paul McCartney is a friend of the models
I have a soft spot for my dear friend Paul McCartney. He is the world's most extraordinary musician, as well as one of the nicest men.
He has been a friend since we met in 1968. I always go to his concerts. The last one I went to was at O2 – he was on stage for three hours, and had the energy of a 20-year-old.
You can feel the affection the audience has for him; it is amazing. Every single song he sings is a smash hit.
I am obsessed with doing jigaw puzzles! When I start one, I can't bear to put it away before it is finished.
I often have a puzzle on the go. Whenever we go on a family holidays and rent a villa somewhere, we always take a jigsaw because you find that people will contribute as they walk past. I find them relaxing and it is a great way to spend quality time with the family, too.
