Treatment of the week: Get smooth skin that last for weeks with a potato body wrap
We all know that potatoes taste great (mash, chips, dauphinoise) but aren’t always your body’s best friend — until now.
At the newly opened Bloww Urban Spa, tucked just off London’s busy Regent Street, they’ve developed a wrap treatment based around the humble spud, which promises to revolutionise skin’s elasticity and condition.
Bloww is the first ‘Africology’ spa in the UK, which means all treatments are based on ancient African thinking, and therapists are trained by a native healer.

My African Potato Body Experience starts with an exfoliating scrub with jojoba oil and seeds from the marula tree, which is indigenous to South Africa, to prepare my skin.
The pressure is just right and the scratching seeds are strangely soothing. Hot towels wipe away the scrub before a thick, oily paste of potato, rooibos (an African plant used to make tea) and marula oil is rubbed in to soften, soothe and improve skin’s hydration.
While soaking up the wrap, I am treated to a holistic foot massage. After a quick shower I hop back on the treatment bed for a body massage to improve circulation and seal in moisture.
When I emerge, after two hours, my skin is fabulously smooth, and the results last weeks.
