To curious onlookers, they would have looked just like a normal happy family enjoying a Father's Day weekend together.

But little did they – and the world – know that just two weeks later, Katie Holmes would be filing for divorce from Tom Cruise and seeking full custody of their little girl.

Today, details began to emerge about their last ever weekend together, which was said to be very tense and heavily guarded.

A picture of the couple at dinner
that weekend in Iceland, where Tom was filming his new movie, was
released a few days ago and showed them having dinner at a sushi restaurant in Reykjavik.

The snap is grainy and blurry but
clearly shows the former couple looking relaxed in each other's company
as they browsed the menu.

But a report today said the weekend was very tense as they went to great lengths to cover up the fact that their relationship was in trouble – and even out duct tape over CCTV cameras to prevent anything getting out.

According to the National Enquirer, Katie flew to Iceland with six-year-old daughter Suri on June 15 to join Tom who was shooting the movie Oblivion in the country.

They checked into the $1,000-a-night Presidential Suite of the Hilton Nordica hotel which a hotel insider told the tabloid has 'a sweeping view of the bay' and is 'the best hotel room in all of Iceland'.

And
once inside, according to the source, Tom's security team put black
duct tape over all of the security cameras in the ceiling along the 9th
floor corridor outside their suite.

And
a reporter from the National Enquirer visited the suite after the
divorce announcement and said the tape was still attached to a camera
outside their room.

The
insider said they believed the tape was put in place because Tom didn't
want any pictures of him and Katie leaked to the press.

But a friend of the couple said they believe Tom was trying to hide his and Katie's sleeping arrangements.

They said: 'Neither Tom nor Katie let on that they were having problems. It would have been a red flag if Katie had requested her own room.'

'So no one knows for sure whether they
spent their final night together as husband and wife sleeping in the
same bed, or if Tom had to sleep in another part of the suite. But they
certainly kept up appearances.'

The image of them at the restaurant shows them sat in a quiet corner of quaint restaurant Sushi Samba, facing each other as they peruse the menu.

Both
of the actors were dressed casually for the meal, with Katie sporting
white leggings and black polo neck while Tom wore a black jacket and
matching trousers.

Tom
was still in Iceland when news broke of the couple's sudden split on June 29 and he spent
his 50th birthday on July 3 alone while Katie took their six-year-old daughter
for ice cream.

The pair have attempted to continue
life as normal without Tom around and Katie has been taking Suri to do
an array of activities.

Representatives for both stars have
insisted the details of their divorce settlement will be kept under wraps but it is though that Katie will get primary custody of Suri, with Tom
allowed generous visitation rights.

Today it was revealed that Katie, who is desperate to turn hers and Suri's back on the controversial religion of Scientology, has registered with a Catholic church in New York.

It has been widely speculated that Katie
wanted to protect Suri from being
exposed to Scientology, but Tom's lawyer Bert Fields is adamant religion
played no part in her decision to file for divorce
from her husband.

He told RadarOnline: “Let me be very clear about this. The Church of
Scientology played absolutely no role in the divorce settlement talks at
all. Period.'
