Forget the kids! New Toddlers & Tiaras series sees pageant MOMS take centre stage with F-word rants and drag queen obsessions
The latest instalments of Toddlers & Tiaras are so far not failing to entertain – for all the wrong reasons.
Proving that the show is rather more about the mothers” competitive streaks than it is about the children themselves, is angry pageant mom Kelly.
Last night”s episode saw a major tantrum unfold at a contest – but rather than a pint-sized meltdown, it was Kelly who lost her cool.
Storm brewing: Mom, Kelly, listens to the results in disbelief and starts gathering her bags to leave in protest. Daughter Natalie sits quietly while her father stares firmly at the ground
The ultra-competitive pageant mom was far from happy with her daughter Natalie”s “Princess” crown, so stormed out of the hall, leaving the prize crown on the seat in revolt.
In a fit of rage, she proceeded to throw down her bags and unleash an f-word rant in the lobby.
“This is a f****** joke” she said before deciding that the decision to not crown her daughter Queen us a “joke…a joke, joke, joke.”
“Princess means that you are a loser,” she pronounces in anger.
Storms out: The ultra-competitive mother gathers her bags and storms out of the awards session, deeming the competition “a joke”
Eye of the storm: Kelly is seen throwing her bags down and makes an f-word rant, leaving her daughter”s Princess crown on the seat in the hall
Princess, we should make clear, is runner-up – Natalie beat many other girls in the 0-23 months category to claim a usually impressive and very respectable second place.
Lastweek”s season premire, meanwhile, saw another mother, Katie, reveal that she only “had the children so we could do the pageants.”
The shocking news came before seeing the older mother admit that she and husband Robert take their children, Riley, five, and Bob, six, to drag shows to seek inspiration for pageants.
Parental control: Katie home-schools her children Riley and Bob – but she also takes them to drag queen shows and once made Riley dance on the bar at an Applebee”s restaurant
“We have taken our children to several drag shows. We take a lot of our inspiration from RuPaul. He”s our favorite queen.”
As if that”s not enough, the home-schooler goes on to reveal that Riley is no stranger to dancing on bar-tops – usually the territory of strippers.
“We have taken our children to several drag shows. I”ve had her performing Poker Face on the bar at Applebee”s,” she says, referencing the explicit Lady Gaga song.
Viewers hear a moment”s pause before a TLC producer”s voice asks, in disbelief: “Wait, wait, what”
Drag queen fan: Mother Katie says that she and her husband are fans of drag shows, taking her children to them for pageant inspiration
A slightly sheepish Katie attempts to rationalise her dubious parenting style: “It”s not like people threw dollars at her or anything. She”s not a stripper.”
The admission has, unsurprisingly, been greeted with condemnation by viewers.
One E!Online reader, Jamie, writes: This is just disgusting. Furthermore, yes; it is exactly like she”s a stripper. No one else dances on top of bars in skimpy clothing.”
While another, JE, simply says: “Why is this stupid show still on”
Previous dramas on the TLC show have included mother, Wendy Dickey, dressing her three-year-old Paisley as the prostitute from Pretty Woman and another, Lindsay Jackson, adding fake breasts and bottom implants into her daughter Maddy”s costume in an attempt to imitate the famously buxom Dolly Parton.
Both moves saw an avalanche of criticism towards the infamously controversial programme.
