'The Pretty Woman costume got her name out there': Toddlers & Tiaras pageant mom boasts about dressing three-year-old as prostitute character

The mother who dressed her three-year-old daughter as a prostitute
for a beauty pageant last year has expressed pride over the controversial outfit
Wendy Dickey from Georgia, who dressed her daughter Paisley as a Julia Roberts-inspired character for a beauty pageant featured in the TLC series Toddlers & Tiaras, has reappeared in
the series return which airs tonight.
Mrs Dickey tells the cameras: 'Paisley has competed in over
60 pageants but it was definitely the Pretty Woman costume that put Paisley’s
name out there.'
Disturbing: Wendy Dickey, the woman who dressed her three-year-old Paisley (above) as a prostitute, has said the move has benefited her daughter's career
Her outfit choice, which attracted world-wide backlash and
even death threats after it was shown on the reality series, was explained
further by Mrs Dickey: 'I love Julia Roberts and I thought, “this will be the
funniest thing ever”.
'Then all of a sudden, bam! I got a lot of backlash. People
were saying that I was sexualising her, but I made the outfit myself. The
outfit was very non-revealing and she would not be as well-known if it was not
for that costume.'
Television Council has expressed outrage over Mrs Dickey's behaviour in the new episode.
Melissa Henson, Director of Communications and Public
Education, said: 'When it is her mother doing the sexualising, and she justifies her
behaviour by the public attention she gets, that is simply wretched.'
Stars: The Dickeys have reappeared in the new season of the TLC series
Ms Henson also said there are many people to blame for this controversy.
She said: ‘The
child is innocent in all of this but all of the adults involved, from
the mother to the pageant organisers to the series’ producers to
executives at TLC are absolutely out of line in encouraging this child.’
Toddlers & Tiaras premieres tonight on TLC at 10pm EST
