Move over One Direction, Union J might just be ready to steal the boyband crown.
The current X Factor act has become so popular in the past few weeks that it was forced to cancel a meet and greet with their fans on Thursday night due to safety reasons.
The boys were due to appear at Brent
Cross Shopping centre on Thursday to sign autographs and take pictures
but had to pull out after too many fans turned up, making it too dangerous for them to attend the fan event.
Screaming fans: Union J had to cancel their meet and greet at Brent Cross shopping centre on Thursday evening due to safety reasons
Cancelled: So many young girls had gathered in the shopping centre that they caused a security risk, forcing the boyband to cancel the appearance
Crazy fans: Hordes of teenage girls were spotted running into the shopping centre in the hopes of catching a glimpse of the new heartthrobs
A source said: 'The boys are gutted they couldn't meet their fans as they were overwhelmed on hearing how many people had turned up.'
'But with so many fans there they were in danger of being mobbed and fans could have been crushed in the crowds.'
The boys themselves took to Twitter to
express how sorry they are to their fans who queued up at the shopping
centre to see them.
The really are sorry: Union J put on their best pouts as they express their disappointment on Twitter
The really do have the X Factor: In only a few weeks, the new boyband have managed to become so popular they are shutting down shopping centres
George, 19, JJ, 24, Jaymi, 22 and
Josh, 20, posted a picture of themselves holding up signs saying
'sorry', as well as tweeting out a message.
#UnionJLove LOVE YOU ALL AND WE WILL SEE YOU ALL THIS WEEKEND AT
STUDIO! WE'RE SO SORRY! George x,' George posted on the site.
But despite the cancellation, George
Shelley, Jaymi Hensley, JJ Hamblett and Josh Cuthbert were mobbed by
teenage girls outside their London hotel later that night anyway.
Unsafe: The band had tweeted about their fan event earlier, which may have sparked the large crowd
They really love Union J: The fans were all left disappointed as the big turnout made it unsafe for the boys to appear
Here come the girls: Unsurprisingly, most of the fans who attended the cancelled meet and greet were female
After the forced cancellation, the
band went to Camden restaurant Gilgamesh to recover from the
disappointment with other X Factor bands District 3 and MK1.
But upon return to their London hotel room found a group of teenage girls eagerly awaiting their arrival.
The young stars however looked thrilled by all the attention and were happy to oblige in photograph and autograph requests.

there are two boybands because a lot of the time I don't really think
they want to put two of them through.'
