Move over One Direction, Union J might just be ready to steal the boyband crown.

The current X Factor act has become so popular in the past few weeks that it was forced to cancel a meet and greet with their fans on Thursday night due to safety reasons.

The boys were due to appear at Brent
Cross Shopping centre on Thursday to sign autographs and take pictures
but had to pull out after too many fans turned up, making it too dangerous for them to attend the fan event.

A source said: 'The boys are gutted they couldn't meet their fans as they were overwhelmed on hearing how many people had turned up.'

'But with so many fans there they were in danger of being mobbed and fans could have been crushed in the crowds.'

The boys themselves took to Twitter to
express how sorry they are to their fans who queued up at the shopping
centre to see them.

But despite the cancellation, George
Shelley, Jaymi Hensley, JJ Hamblett and Josh Cuthbert were mobbed by
teenage girls outside their London hotel later that night anyway.

After the forced cancellation, the
band went to Camden restaurant Gilgamesh to recover from the
disappointment with other X Factor bands District 3 and MK1.

But upon return to their London hotel room found a group of teenage girls eagerly awaiting their arrival.

The young stars however looked thrilled by all the attention and were happy to oblige in photograph and autograph requests.

But not only teenage girls are
welcomed by the band. Member JJ recently revealed he's interested in
dating older women, just like One Direction's Harry Style.

'I’d go for a cougar any day!,' the 23-year-old said.

'I
love older ladies and am really attracted to them. I don’t care about
age. It doesn’t matter and it shouldn’t matter, should it'

Despite Union J threatening to take
over the boyband stakes, One Direction recently revealed to Heat
magazine they are a fan of all the new X Factor bands.

'The
boybands are really good,' Harry Styles said. 'I think its good that
there are two boybands because a lot of the time I don't really think
they want to put two of them through.'

'I think they are both really great and talented and they showed that on The X Factor.'
