In August Tulisa Contostavlos made the brave admission that her fellow judge Nicole Scherzinger knew better than her in regards to stylish picks.
And tonight on the first live show of The X Factor, Tulisa made that revelation a reality when she took to the spotlight in an unflattering navy gown.
Nicole on the other hand put her trim figure on display in a form fitting black mini-dress which was made up of sheer panels.
And it begins… X Factor judge Tulisa Contostavlos (L) failed to impress with her prom-inspired dress this week on the first live show while Nicole Scherzinger smoldered in a sheer black mini-dress
Setting the tone: Nicole wore a dress by IZMAYLOVA with boots from Giuseppe Zanotti Design, and Tulisa wore Miu Miu open toe heels with a dress created by Carlotta
Standing side by side as they emerged from behind a set of sliding walls, it was clear to see that the former Pussycat Doll singer had won this week's fashion face-off.
Doing Cheryl Cole's infamous salute, the 34-year-old opted to wear her hair back in quiffed ponytail.
Putting her enviable pins on display, she strutted forward in a pair of patent black heeled ankle boots by Giuseppe Zanotti Design, which she teamed with a black mini-dress by by IZMAYLOVA.
The daring dress consisted of several different patches made from both leather and patent material and bared only one sleeve.
Nicole accessorised with pieces of jewellery from Shaun Leane and keep her make-up minimal.
Doing a Cole: Nicole channeled former X Factor judge Cheryl's signature salute as she addressed the camera
No longer the female boss Tulisa simply winked instead of doing a hand gesture
Coming out in a blaze: The judges stood side by side as the audience waited for the sliding walls to open
Tulisa, who received harsh criticism from viewers over Twitter, stepped out in a strapless navy mullet puff ball gown by Carlotta which can complete with ruched detailing.
She teamed the dress with a pair of open toe heels by Miu Miu which were embellished with a bow.
With her freshly coloured brunette hair up in a bun, the24-year-old also wore a silver necklace fitted with a large indigo gem, which proved very unpopular with users on the micro-blogging site.
One person tweeted: 'What necklace is Tulisa wearing! It doesn't suit her or the dress she's wearing!!! #XFactor'
While another joked: 'I'd be fumin if I was Tulisa wearing that dress, stood next to Nicole… Wearing that dress…'
Someone who was left utterly unimpressed with Tulisa's ensemble posted a message that read: 'You get Nicole Scherzinger then you get Tulisa, that's like eating a steak then tucking into a pot noodle'.
Helping hands: Both Gary Barlow and Louis Walsh (R) aided Nicole and Tulisa down the stairs
Earlier this year, long-standing judge Louis Walsh branded Tulisa a 'chav' in a interview with the Radio Times.
The 60-year-old entertainment manager also said the that singer believes she is a bigger celebrity than she really is.
Speaking about Tulisa he said: 'She is a bit rough around the edges and when they announced she was on the panel I was expecting a chav in a tracksuit – which is what we got – but she's a lot of fun.'
He added: 'She thinks she's a bigger star than she actually is though.'
Getting along: The judges quickly settled into their roles and gave the contestants their honest opinions
