Time up: X Factor bosses will decide on Friday if Lucy Spraggan is well enough to continue on the show
Lucy Spraggan has quit The X Factor after illness ruled her out of the competition for a second week running.
The 21-year-old hopeful admitted she was 'gutted' to be bowing out of the ITV1 show, but explained she didn't think it would be fair on her fellow competitors to have another 'free pass' for Saturday night's show.
In an official statement, Lucy said: 'I am gutted not to be able to continue on this journey but I'm not well enough to perform.
'To accept another free pass having missed last weekend would not be fair on the others in the competition. I wish them all well.
'I would like to express my thanks to everyone who has supported me. There is no way that this setback will prevent me from fulfilling my ambition. You'll be hearing from me again very soon.'
An X Factor spokesperson added: 'Lucy isn't well enough to perform this weekend so she has decided to withdraw from the competition.
'We are all sorry to see her go and wish her all the best for the future. She has been a fantastic contestant.'
Meanwhile, Tulisa Contostavlos vowed to continue to mentor Lucy.
She said: 'I’m so sorry to lose Lucy from the
competition, I have had a brilliant time working with her and I hope I
can continue to mentor her in the future.
'I now count her as a friend as
she is an amazing girl and I am sure she is heading for great things.'
Lucy, whose grandmother recently passed away, was too ill to appear on last week's show and controversially was automatically put through to this Saturday's programme.
Aches and pains: Lucy has been too ill to rehearse and may not be able to take part in the rest of the series
X Factor contestants have been practicing all week and Lucy was supposed to have her first rehearsal on Wednesday afternoon.
However, she pulled out of her session and said that she was suffering from exhaustion.
A concerned Jahmene Douglas told MailOnline at the Cosmopolitan Ultimate Women of the Year Awards: 'I'm really worried about Lucy. I hope she's okay.'
Lucy, who was set to perform a version of Rihanna's smash hit Umbrella, has not tweeted since last week.
Good support: Rylan Clark, pictured with Lucy last month, has said she is on the verge of quitting
Guitar star: Lucy has been inundated with well wishes from fans including X Factor judge Gary Barlow
But some of her fans took to the social networking site to wish her well and show her support.
One person said: 'I really hope that lucy spraggan doesn't leave the x factor, and it's absolutely disgusting that people are hating her because she was ILL.' (sic)
X Factor judge Gary Barlow tweeted 'Get well @lspraggan', while another person said: 'HEY @lspraggan PLEASSSE DON'T LEAVE THE X FACTOR UR ON OF MY FAVOURITE'S AND I THINK U HAVE A REALLY GOOD CHANCE OF WINNING! X GET WELL SOON.
