When they got engaged they looked like they were on top of the world, but things are far from rosy for Mario Falcone and Lucy Mecklenburgh.

The couple's relationship appears to be hanging by a thread after Mario walked out on his fiance in Wednesday night's episode of The Only Way Is Essex.

The argument began when the 24-year-old tailor decided to confront Lucy, 21, about her feelings towards their engagement and wedding.

'Every time you talk about the wedding you say you're too young,' Mario started the conversation with.

'You're more negative than you are positive and you're not ready to do it.'

Lucy replied: 'You know my opinion bub, I loved when you proposed to me. But every time someone asks me, I want to change the subject.'

This obviously didn't go down very well with Mario, and he simply said back: 'I don't want to be engaged then.'

But Lucy tried to rectify what she had said, by adding: 'I'm not saying that, I'm just 21 and don't want to plan a wedding yet.'

Clearly feeling uncomfortable talking about it, she then asked Mario: 'Can you get me a glass of wine'

When he returned with the drink, Lucy explained herself more clearly saying: 'The reasons I'm not ready yet, age is one, what people say is two, and three I don't 100 per cent trust you.

'And it just doesn't feel right, it's my gut instinct. They're my reasons.'

Mario couldn't even stick around to hear what Lucy had said, and simply replied: 'I'm done' as he stormed out of the restaurant.

'So you text loads of girls and then you put it on me, you f***ing idiot,' Lucy muttered under her breath before getting upset and leaving the restaurant herself.

The couple got engaged in Marbella in June after a rocky one year relationship, which saw them briefly split last November after Lucy confessed to spending the night with ex-boyfriend Mark Wright.
