James 'Arg' Argent came to blows with Lucy Mecklenburgh over his relationship with ex Lydia Bright in a tense showdown on last night's episode of The Only Way Is Essex.

Lucy confronted Arg during a night out after becoming upset at the fact that Lydia had stayed in for fear of bumping into him.

Speaking to her boyfriend Mario Falcone, Lucy said: 'I'm not
getting involved but I'm getting upset. Lydia's not coming out because
she doesn't want to see him. I hate seeing her treated like this.'

In the previous episode, Lydia had told Lucy she's been sent abusive texts from Arg – who she split from in January – after he discovered she had moved on by sleeping with a new man.

She then walked over to Arg, who asked 'What's up'

Lucy replied: 'You've upset me Arg. I've seen the texts on Lydia's phone.'

Arg replied: 'But have you seen the messages she sent me After she slept with someone who I knew, who I thought was a friend'

Made her case: Lucy said that Lydia didn't deserve to be texted nasty things, while Arg made the point that Lydia had cheated on him with one of his friends

Lucy answered: 'I've seen all the messages Arg, but you can't call Lydia a sl*t, cos she's not like that.'

'But
she is like that, because she did it,' replied Arg. 'I won't talk to
Lydia like that again because I'm never talking to her again. I'm over
her.'

Mario then went over to have a word with Arg, and told
him: 'The only thing you've done wrong in my opinion is call Lydia a
sl*t, cos you don't call girls sl**s.'

During a heart to heart with Joey
Essex earlier in the program Arg explained: 'We've stayed well clear of
each other with everything that's happened, sleeping with someone I
knew.

'I never thought that she was that sort of girl, she always made out she was different from other girls, but she's not.

'I would never do anything like that because I don't want her to find out, and I wouldn't want to hurt her.'

Lydia meanwhile poured her heart out
to her mother Debbie Douglas, saying: 'I think he really didn't want me there,
but I wanted to be there to support the girls, and he's made it out to
be a huge problem.

'I'll show you some of the texts they're very horrible and very disrespectful.'

After looking at the texts, Debbie answered tearfully: 'You're not a sl*g, you're not a sl*t and you don't sleep around.'

'What you mustn't do is react to him. When he texts you nasty messages – and they are nasty messages, it upsets me to read them- you have to take control and delete them.

'You have to believe that you're number one.'

'But when James is involved I don't feel in control, I feel all faint,' said Lydia.
