She once declared she would never wed again after her first too marriages ended in heartache.

But singer Annie Lennox is hoping she will be lucky third time around after marrying Dr Mitch Besser in an intimate ceremony during a boat party on the River Thames.

The couple celebrated their nuptials on a private boat party on the River Thames where celebrity guests included Oscar-winning actor Colin Firth and the American comedienne Ruby Wax.

The 57-year-old bride is said to have worn a distinctive, white, floor-length gown with a lace bolero shrug and a 1920s style headpiece.

Meanwhile the groom, gynaecologist Dr Besser, also 57, wore a simple grey suit and pastel-coloured tie.

Miss Lennox shared her happiness through a simple tweet yesterday posting a picture of her pink and white flowers and the words: ‘Wedding flowers: 15th September 2012.’

Former Eurythmics star Miss Lennox met South African Dr Besser in 2009 after becoming involved in his charity Mothers2Mothers which helps children and single mothers with Aids.

Dr Besser, a leading HIV charity chief, who has two teenage sons was married at the time.

However the newlyweds decided to keep their wedding low-key in an act of sensitivity towards Dr Besser’s ex-wife and the children.

At the river Thames reception, which was attended by 150 close friends and family, guests were treated to a selection of finger food served by a silver service catering team. Selected canaps included pieces of sashimi and mini roast puddings followed by Danish pastries and fruit cake for desert.

Later that evening she was seen on the dance floor with her new husband as the DJ played some classic 80s tracks including Michael Jackson’s Billie Jean and Madonna’s Like a Virgin.

The singer’s two daughters Lola, 22, and Tali, 19 were also among the guests. Tali, a model and artist was seen wearing a sheer, long sleeved dress with a jewelled neckline.

A source inside the wedding said: ‘It was just a really relaxed, friendly occasion- everyone seemed happy, especially Annie who was beaming’.

The Scottish-born singer who is also famous for being a women’s rights activist and a prominent aids awareness campaigner is always fiercely protective of her private life.
