The man who made Annie try marriage a third time: Lennox ties knot after low key ceremony

She once declared she would never wed again after her first too marriages ended in heartache.
But singer Annie Lennox is hoping she will be lucky third time around after marrying Dr Mitch Besser in an intimate ceremony during a boat party on the River Thames.
The couple celebrated their nuptials on a private boat party on the River Thames where celebrity guests included Oscar-winning actor Colin Firth and the American comedienne Ruby Wax.

The 57-year-old bride is said to have worn a distinctive, white, floor-length gown with a lace bolero shrug and a 1920s style headpiece.
Meanwhile the groom, gynaecologist Dr Besser, also 57, wore a simple grey suit and pastel-coloured tie.
Miss Lennox shared her happiness through a simple tweet yesterday posting a picture of her pink and white flowers and the words: ‘Wedding flowers: 15th September 2012.’
Former Eurythmics star Miss Lennox met South African Dr Besser in 2009 after becoming involved in his charity Mothers2Mothers which helps children and single mothers with Aids.
Dr Besser, a leading HIV charity chief, who has two teenage sons was married at the time.

However Debra Jackson, his wife of 28 years, filed for divorce last year after pictures emerged of him walking hand-in-hand with Miss Lennox. It is believed their marriage was experiencing difficulties before this.
However the newlyweds decided to keep their wedding low-key in an act of sensitivity towards Dr Besser’s ex-wife and the children.
At the river Thames reception, which was attended by 150 close friends and family, guests were treated to a selection of finger food served by a silver service catering team. Selected canaps included pieces of sashimi and mini roast puddings followed by Danish pastries and fruit cake for desert.

And Miss Lennox who is reported to be worth in the region of 30 million didn’t scrimp on the alcohol.
A number of champagne cocktails were given to guests on arrival followed by a free bar, where professional mixologists were on hand to create exotic drinks on request.
Having had a busy summer, performing at the Queen’s diamond jubilee concert as well as the closing ceremony of the London Olympic Games, it seems the legendary singer was keen to let her hair down.
Later that evening she was seen on the dance floor with her new husband as the DJ played some classic 80s tracks including Michael Jackson’s Billie Jean and Madonna’s Like a Virgin.
The singer’s two daughters Lola, 22, and Tali, 19 were also among the guests. Tali, a model and artist was seen wearing a sheer, long sleeved dress with a jewelled neckline.
As Lennox’s daughters from her second marriage to the Israeli record producer Uri Fructmann, it is believed the girls acted as bridesmaids for their mother.
A source inside the wedding said: ‘It was just a really relaxed, friendly occasion- everyone seemed happy, especially Annie who was beaming’.
The Scottish-born singer who is also famous for being a women’s rights activist and a prominent aids awareness campaigner is always fiercely protective of her private life.

Her first marriage in 1984 was to a German Hare Krishna devotee Radha Ramen but it ended a year later.
1988 she married Israeli film and record producer Uri Frutmann and had
two daughters Lola in 1990 and Tali in 1993. The marriage last 12 years
and ended in 2000.
In an interview in 2008, Annie said she drew enough fulfilment from her charity work and two daughters and had no desire to marry again. She said:
‘No more marriage for me, I don’t see the point of it. It’s not that I am sure a cynic. To share one’s life with someone is a beautiful thing. But for the moment, I am a single person’.
Last night Annie Lennox’s spokeswoman released a statement on behalf of the newly-weds.
‘On Saturday 15th September 2012, Annie Lennox and Dr Mitch Besser were married in London in a private ceremony with friends and family present’.
