The cake that thought it was a full English breakfast: Chef recreates foods from bacon and eggs to packet of Custard Creams using icing and sponge
On first glance this delicious full English breakfast appears to have come straight from the frying pan – but it’s actually a birthday cake.
The 38-year-old has been inundated with orders since setting up his business, called Paul's Creative Cakes, at his home in Colchester, Essex.
And he spends hours painstakingly carving each in to all sorts of weird and wacky designs.
Paul James created a birthday cake in the shape of a full English, complete with knife and fork, bacon, eggs, sausages and black pudding – it even comes with a bottle of Ketchup, napkin and salt & pepper
His creations include a half-eaten picnic, an ice-cream sundae and an outsized custard cream biscuit.
He's even created fairytale castle,which measured an impressive six feet by four feet and took an entire week to complete.
Paul said: 'I was a chef for 22 years and I began making cakes for friends and family after being asked to take control of the pastry section at work.
'When orders started getting more regular I decided to start making cakes full time.

'At the moment I work in my own kitchen at home but I would love to have a shop or bigger place one day.'
Paul has found himself making cakes for all sorts of occasions – including Birthdays, Christmas, Valentine's and Mother's Day.
His carved inventions, made with flavoured sponges and covered with jam, butter cream, fondant and icing, start at 35.
He said: 'The time it takes to make them varies a lot, anything from a couple of hours up to the longest so far was a week.

Paul says his customers will sometimes end up paying more for his travel costs than the actual cake itself

'The biggest one I've made so far was
a fairy tale castle. It was made on a board roughly 6ft by 4ft. I had
to transport it to the venue in two cars.'
'I've had a lot of requests. Enquiries comes in from all over the country.
will come to me with an idea and I will make it in to a cake. The
strangest so far are probably a Dyson hoover and a chicken fajita. My
favourite so far is the ice-cream sundae.'
Paul's creations are so sought after customers are prepared to go to extraordinary lengths to get them.
He added: 'I deliver cakes myself in Essex, Suffolk and surrounding areas and I am prepared to go further afield but petrol costs can end up more than the cake.
'One young lady made a seven-hour round trip last year to pick up a cake I had made for her and she said she would happily do it again.'
