Royal blue: Camilla grins under a quirky Philip Treacy hat at RAF Halton, Oxfordshire
The Duchess of Cornwall gave a nod to the RAF uniform today, her blue beret echoing the force's colours as she accepted the freedom of a town on behalf of its local air base.
But perched on top of the Philip Treacy creation was a blue rose wrapped up in Saturn-style rings of felt.
Camilla matched the bizarre headwear with a blue Anna Valentine coat dress and a brooch given to her by RAF Halton, of which she is the Honorary Air Commodore.
She appeared at the base to accept the honour from the nearby town of Thame, in Oxfordshire.
The Duchess gave a short speech after receiving a framed scroll outlining the honour for the RAF base, telling those gathered in Thame: 'It is a proud moment in any RAF Station's history to receive the Freedom of Entry.
'It shows the close ties between a military unit and the support they receive from the communities they live and work amongst.'
Speaking at the open air event attended by around 2,000 well-wishers, the Duchess added: 'You, the good people of Thame, have recognised the significant role that those who serve in Her Majesty's armed forces play at home and abroad.
'It is only with the strong support of the public that units like RAF Halton are able to operate effectively, knowing that what they do is so valued by those whom they serve.'
During her afternoon in Thame, the Duchess chatted to veterans, schoolchildren and locals after a parade by service personnel from the RAF base.
She also met council members in the town hall during a short reception before walking down the high street to a hotel where there was a reception for the 100 or so RAF personnel who had been on parade.
Camilla is one of a number of members of the Royal Family who have close connections with the UK's RAF bases.
