Ever since Keira Knightley made a swimming cap look fabulous in Atonement, the accessory has never come off the fashion radar – and this year it”s set to be all the rage for the winter season.

Prada, Marc Jacobs and Victoria Beckham have taken inspiration from the Fifties and used this retro item on their catwalks. But it would seem the caps are not strictly for swimming, given they are made from leather, wool and even snakeskin.

The good news for fashionistas is that you don”t have to wait until winter to try out this trend, as caps are the perfect accompaniment for one of summer”s hottest trends – retro swimwear. Bring on poolside posing…
