Speed read: Get 'chubby' with trend for faux furs
On the catwalk: A chubby fur in Diane von Furstenberg's autumn/winter collection
In fashionable circles, a cropped fur coat has long, and rather mysteriously, been known as a ‘chubby’ — presumably because it makes the wearer look less stylishly svelte and more, shall we say, comely.
Shaggy coats have come a long way since the Seventies when Yves Saint Laurent first glamorized them with his iconic fox fur chubby.
Now, thankfully, faux fur looks just as chic as the real stuff and won’t upset animal lovers.
Diane Von Furstenberg, Michael Kors and Matthew Williamson have produced faux versions of the cropped jacket and the high street is bursting with options. Wear with slim trousers and rock chick attitude.
HOW TO WEARMake sure you wear your chubby with something slim on the bottom half — cigarette pants or jeggings are ideal.
Stick to elegant browns, blacks, whites or beiges. If you do opt for colours think rich reds and greens rather than luminous yellows or oranges.
This is the perfect choice for evenings and weekends but probably not for the office.SHOPPING LIST
