'I had a little cosmetic surgery, but it was a long time ago': Songstress Petula Clarke turns 80 – and reveals the secret of her looks

Now: What a difference a decade makes, Petula Clark looking great at 80
Turning a year older is probably little cause for concern when you’ve already managed to turn back the clock.
And as Petula Clark celebrated her 80th birthday yesterday, it certainly looked as though she had rewound the years.
With her smooth, taut skin and a stylish haircut reminiscent of her days on stage, the Downtown singer appeared astonishingly fresh and youthful.
But it was a sharp contrast to a photograph from nine years ago which showed her looking heavier and with a lined, puffy face.
Miss Clark, who released her first song in 1949, has put her remarkable transformation down to eating healthily, walking and enjoying the occasional glass of wine – and also admitted to ‘a little’ surgical intervention.
She told the Daily Mail: ‘Yes, I had a little cosmetic surgery, but it was a long time ago. I don’t intend going there again. But you never know.’
For the most part, she insisted, her ‘good genes’ were to thank for her well-preserved looks, adding: ‘I eat well with a glass of wine now and then, walk a lot, love and laugh a lot, and make music. And that’s about it.’
Miss Clark, who now lives in France,
first stepped on stage at the age of six and grew up to become one of
the most successful British female recording artists in history, with
more than 68million records sold worldwide and a string of number one
hits including I Know A Place.

And the grandmother of two has no plans to put her feet up, with her next album planned for release in February.
But the star, who is married to publicist Claude Wolff, has admitted that she regrets juggling her career with raising her three children, saying: ‘I think it is almost impossible to have it all.’
Last night surgeon Giorgio Netri, of Transform Cosmetic Surgery Group, said: ‘From looking at the recent shots of Petula, it appears that she has undertaken a face lift. Overall she has had a fantastic result.’
