They started life as simple beach shoes – plastic summertime wear that Brazilians quickly caught on to.
Melissa shoes now adorn some of the world's most fashionable feet, are housed in a flagship store in New York's SoHo and have been the subject of design collaborations with a host of the most exciting and famous fashion names including Vivienne Westwood.
The South American designer is yet again notching up another fashion landmark with a new partnership with Brazilian beauty, Alessandra Ambrosio.

It is a fitting union – according to Grazia, the
supermodel, 30, said that she 'grew up with Melissa' in her wardrobe and was
even almost called Melissa – but her mother eventually opted for the alliterative
girl of the latest edition of the label's Plastic Dreams magazine, Ms
Ambrosio is currently pregnant with her second child and is due to give birth in May.

to the fashion magazine, the London shoot was inspired by Frida Kahlo
and Diego Rivera as well as Christian religious iconography – and as
such was shot on location under the carved stone vaults of an old
No hint of any baby weight, the
supermodel wears a silver pair of her Alessandra Ambrosio Loves Melissa

The Victoria's Secret model has
injected her style into a high-heeled pair of plastic pumps, creating a
glittery evening shoe with gathered bow at the heel and a rounded toe.

Grazia reports that the model has also lent her stylish edge and name to a pair of flats for the range.

Melissa Loves line, a celebration of the brand's favourite celebrities.
The shoes will be on sale from August and join the bold Vivienne Westwood Anglomania, Jason Wu and Gareth Pugh designs for the brand that has seen global expansion in recent years.
