The pair met while Vince catered for the actors on set. He runs The Catering Company, which specialises in feeding actors on TV and movie sets, having been in the business for 20 years.

The source added: “She didn”t want to jinx things but she”s not too worried about people finding out now because, after all, he is her future husband.

“But she”s determined not to turn their relationship into a publicity stunt.”

The actress” screen alter ego Kat Moon has recently been seen in some emotional scenes as the controversial EastEnders” baby swap storyline finally came to an end.

Friends hope the engagement spells an end to her turbulent love life.

She has already been engaged twice – to actor Tommy O”Neill and Policeman Dave Morgan, father of her six-year-old daughter Tallulah.

At 17 she also dated double killer David Paris, who killed a man with his bare hands aged 15 and later strangled his wife.

She has also had relationships with millionaire Paul Whitworth, who was friends with gang boss Reggie Cray, as well as Eastenders co-star Billy Murray.

Kat and screen husband Alfie, played by Shane Richie, had been grieving for their son Tommy since the New Year, when Ronnie Branning (Samantha Womack) swapped the dead body of her own baby James for their baby.

But four months later, Ronnie finally confessed what she had done before handing herself into police – leading to her imprisonment for the crime.
