From Bob Dylan to Beethoven, Princess Diana's eclectic childhood record collection goes under the hammer

Princess Diana clearly had an eclectic taste in music judging by her childhood record collection
When a teenage Diana Spencer signed her record collection, she was guarding against her treasured albums being confused with those of her boarding school friends.
Little did the future Princess of Wales know that simply writing Diana on LPs ranging from the Eagles' Greatest Hits to Beethoven's Symphony No 5 would one day make them collectors' items.
Now, almost 15 years after her death, 19 vinyl records believed to have been owned by Diana are expected to raise thousands in an online auction.
They are being sold anonymously through Guernsey-based PFC Auctions which is also selling a slice of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding cake.
Vinyls featuring classical composers such as Mozart and Beethoven are interspersed with albums from U.S. rockers the Eagles and Bob Dylan
'It was custom for the Spencer children to put first names on records to make it clear which record belonged to which child,' says DJ Paul Gambaccini
It is claimed the records were bought at a
car boot sale for 6 in 2004 from a woman whose daughter had roomed
with Diana at West Heath school in Kent.
The seller at the Cholmondeley Castle charity sale in Cheshire said there had been arguments over who owned which records, so Diana signed hers with her first name.
At the time veteran DJ Paul Gambaccini, who was asked to catalogue Diana’s childhood record collection after her death, said: ‘The records would fit very snugly into the collection I saw at St James’s Palace.’
The collection being auctioned now, kept in a black LP case, includes music for the ballet La Fille Mal Gardee as well as Bob Dylan.
There is also the soundtrack to Franco Zeffirelli’s 1968 film Romeo and Juliet.
The albums are: Bizet’s opera Carmen; Romeo and Juliet film soundtrack; Brahms’s Hungarian Dances; Sibelius’s Finlandia; Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony; Beethoven’s Symphony No 5; Mozart’s Symphony No 40; Mendelssohn’s Overtures; La Fille Mal Gardee; Faure & Saint-Saens; Elgar’s Enigma Variations; Liszt’s Piano Works; Grieg Selection; Favourite Ballet; Edward Heath’s Music; Paul Simon’s Still Crazy After All These Years; Bob Dylan’s Hard Rain; John Denver’s Rocky Mountain High; The Eagles’ Greatest Hits.
