Premium Rush (12a)

Verdict: Fast, furious and infuriating

Here at long last is a movie that celebrates the kind of cyclists who ride through red lights, menace pedestrians on pavements and take the view that other people should get out of their way.

In short, this is a film that delights in dangerously cretinous behaviour. The story

A Manhattan bike messenger (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) who doesn’t believe in brakes or road safety has an envelope to deliver, and a bad guy in a car (Michael Shannon) tries to stop him. That’s basically it.

It’s one long, repetitive chase movie, and I found it as tedious as it is charmless.

However, the young lady on work experience with me forgave everything because Gordon-Levitt is ‘so cute’.

So there you are: everything’s subjective.

I must admit that some of the cycling stunts are spectacular, which is why I’m grudgingly awarding it a second star. But I didn’t think anything about it was cute.
