In a bid to get more men into his store, one jeweller is to offer free rifles to men who spend at least $1,999 on an engagement ring.

An employee from Fin and Feather, who is supplying Mr van Beek with the firearms, described the particular model as 'durable' and 'foolproof'.

Although the deal has not started yet Mr van Beek says that the response has been 'overwhelming'.

He told MailOnline: 'The first
responses from clients started last night at 2am by email. Today we will
schedule our first meetings with clients for custom design rings.'

Mr van Beek moved to the U.S; from the Netherlands in 2005 with his wife and son, first to Massachusetts and later to Missouri.

He opened his jewellery store at 365 Beaver Kreek Center in North Liberty last year.

He
added: 'The most important thing in today’s life is to get a smile on
someone’s face. Crazy things, unexpected ideas, creative solutions, that
is what we do.'

The deal is not exclusive to men, and women can get in on it too.

A different kind of deal: Shoppers will receive a Remington 870 hunting rifle which is widely used for sport shooting, hunting, and self-defense

It isn't the first time such a deal has been run, and last month Geller and Son, a jewellery shop in Atlanta, Georgia, offered a free hunting rifle worth $430 to anyone who bought $2,499 in diamonds

Mr van Beek's rifle offer is subject to Iowa laws on gun ownership. Those barred include felons and addicts.
