An out-of-this-world marriage proposal in front
of the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation seems to have shocked the sci-fi stars just as much as the bride-to-be.

The Star Trek fan popped the question during a cast photo op at the Austin Wizard World Convention, and Wil Wheaton, who played Wesley Crusher on the Nineties space show, shared the surprise on Reddit.

Ms Wheaton, who was sitting next to the unsuspecting woman, posted the couple's proposal picture with a detailed account of the unexpected romantic gesture, revealing it was Marina Sirtis, who plays Commander Deanna Troi, who accidentally gave the man an engagement push.

'About 30 minutes or so into this particular session, these two people came in,' Ms Wheaton wrote.

'The girl went to stand between Patrick [Stewart] and [Jonathan] Frakes, and the guy directed her to stand in the front, instead.

'All of us tried to figure out what was going on … and the guy said, “I really love Star Trek, but I love (her name) even more.” He got down on one knee, and proposed to her.'

After meeting the couple earlier in the day, Ms Sirtis had questioned why they were yet to be married, giving the man a bit of an engagement push.

According to Ms Wheaton, Ms Sirtis was a slightly embarrassed by the proposal.

One Reddit user commented: 'I guess when the cast of Star Trek tells you to engage, you make it so.'

Ms Wheaton added: 'Once we knew what was happening, it was awesome. I'm incredibly happy for these people, and I love that I got to be part of what is hopefully a moment they'll celebrate and remember for the rest of their lives.'
