Funny, outrageous and downright rude. Who’s in Liz Jones’ firing line this weekCreating brats: Mothers shouldn

Creating brats: Mothers shouldn”t always pander to their children (posed by model)

Do you know what really gets on my nerves It’s women who allow themselves to be bossed around by their children.

This is Sian Williams, presenter of BBC Breakfast: ‘If I haven’t had time to change, my four-year-old son will say: “Take your work clothes off, Mummy!” They expect to see me as their mum, not as I am on the telly, so I switch into jeans, boots and a jumper … being a mother is my most important job and I take it seriously.’

This is Sarah Montague, one of the presenters on Radio 4’s Today programme, a woman who can annihilate David Cameron at 40 paces: ‘I haven’t gone a night without being woken by children for years.’

She adds: ‘I get invited to a lot of things, but I choose to put my children to bed instead.’

I have a friend who is buying a house after her divorce and allowing her 14-year-old son to dictate where they live!

When I suggest somewhere lovely, I get: ‘Oh no, Sampson won’t want to cycle to see his friends, or get the bus to school.’

Another woman let her son choose her car (a wretched 4×4). Another friend has just come out of hospital to find her two teenage sons have trashed her house and ‘are cross with me for being ill. I make them separate meals as it is, as the older one is now vegetarian’.

I read a hilarious article in an interiors magazine, where the woman said: ‘I designed the house to be made of glass around a courtyard, so that I could watch my children play from the kitchen, the sitting room, the office and the bedroom.’

I suppose my viewpoint is slightly skewed as I grew up with a stay-at-home, full-time mum, when I wished she’d been glamorous and goneto cocktail parties, pecking me on my cheek and leaving wafts of Shalimar.

But being totally in thrall to your children, even the tiny ones! Allowing them to tell you what to wear and how to live

I think a lot of the problem stems from divorce, when mums, terrifiedtheir children will want to live with their ex, will do anything to placate them and even turn them into surrogate husbands.

What was more ludicrous than Cheryl Cole telling Grazia, when asked about her impending move to the U.S. to present The X Factor: ‘I’m taking chocolates and chocolate Hobnobs’

How about Anna Della Russo, a fashion ‘muse’ (ie she’s rich) writing about the Met Ball: ‘Kanye introduced me to Jay-Z, but his accent is so strong I didn’t really understand what he said to me.

‘After dinner,’ she continues, ‘Florence Welch sang and Colin Firth made a speech. Everyone was thinking: “What a great population!”

‘It was all about you Brits. McQueen managed to make a complete style exploring the place where beauty and horror meet. My wardrobe has a lot of his pret-a-porter pieces that work brilliantly for day.’

Parisian chic: Danielle Steel believes there is

Parisian chic: Danielle Steel believes there is “no style” in San Francisco

She has sold nearly 600 million copies of her racy novels, making her the most popular author writing today.

But Danielle Steel, 64, the American-born author who now spends most of her time in Paris, has caused upset in her former home-town of San Francisco after claiming it has no style.

In an interview this week, she complained: ‘There”s no style, nobody dresses up — you can”t be chic there. It”s all shorts and hiking books and Tevas [an ugly but practical style of shoe].

‘It is as if everyone is dressed to go on a camping trip,’ she told the Wall Street Journal.

‘I don”t think people really care how they look there; and I look like a mess when I”m there, too.’

Defenders of the city expressed their opinions about Ms Steel”s comments on Twitter.

Hammiesnore wrote: ‘SF has no style riiight cuz [sic] she”s the final word in fashion. Irrelevant haters gonna hate.

Jojosnackcakes commented: ‘The old girl aint lookin.’

Ms Steel did have some praise for the city however: ‘San Francisco is a great city to raise children, but I was very happy to leave it.’

Choosing now to base herself in Paris, Ms Steel also criticises the Californian approach to healthy living.

“I would rather die than exercise today. I smoke, I drink and while I have a trainer, I avoid her by all means necessary.’

She revealed: ‘People in California always want to know about your workout program; I don”t really know what to tell them.’

A famous collector of haute couture, Ms Steel has now sold much of her once-impressive wardrobe, though she still flexes her credit cards.

‘I like to shop for quality basics — Prada, Chanel, Givenchy and of course, Herms handbags,’ she revealed. ‘I am very fond of what Phoebe Philo is doing at Cline and I love Jil Sander for trousers.’

Anger: Many took to Twitter to defend San Francisco-dwellers

While she does now buy as much couture these days, she still has a soft spot for Chanel.

‘Chanel is the only real couture today and this last show was the most wearable I”ve seen yet from Karl Lagerfeld,” she said.

Expensive taste: The author believes Chanel is the only real couture today

Expensive taste: The author believes Chanel is the only real couture today

‘I don”t buy trends, because the pieces don”t last and I wind up never wearing them. That”s why I like to shop with my children; they”ll alwaystell me the truth.’

The writer is also well-known for her shoe collection.

AsChristian Louboutin”s number one customer she has a collection of more than 6,000 pairs and with the average cost of a pair at $700, her collection is worth over $4million.

‘I”m surprisingly practical in much of my life, but not when it comes to my shoes,’ she says with some understatement.

“She literally buys everything,’ Christian Louboutin has said. “She is super.”

MsSteel’s collection is by no means limited to red soles, however: ‘Shoesfrom Roger Vivier are my favorite right now. But I”m also partial to Blahnik, Vuitton and Zanotti. I want them chic, pretty and sexy.’

But apart from shoes and shopping, sex and love are never far from the Queen of Romance’s radar.

Texting, she declares, is a passion killer.

‘People have entire relationships via text message now, but I am not partial to texting. I need context, nuance and the warmth and tone that can only come from a human voice,’ she said.

And for the world’s most widely read novelist – her books are available in 47 countries and 28 languages – her views on love and lust are universal.

‘Lust is temporary, romance can be nice, but love is the most important thing of all.

‘Because without love, lust and romance will always be short-lived.’

Steel’s 97th novel, 44 Charles Street, is out now.

Paparazzi debate flares over royal bridesmaid pics

Paparazzi debate flares over royal bridesmaid pics
As Prince William and Kate Middleton honeymoon in a secluded spot, the paparazzi who stalk them are back in the spotlight.

There’s a brewing legal battle over publication of 5-year-old photographs of bridesmaid Pippa Middleton sunbathing topless, and anger about gruesome photographs of the late Princess Diana in the moments after her 1997 car crash appearing in a documentary about her death.

The publication of the Pippa pictures — showing the 27-year-old on a powerboat with older sister Kate (in a revealing bikini) and William (in a red and white bathing suit) — prompted the Middleton family to file a formal petition to Britain’s independent Press Complaints Commission.

That complaint is seen as the first salvo in what is expected to be a conflict between the monarchy and the press as both sides try to establish boundaries in a new royal era defined by William and Middleton, now the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and their determination to live a normal life.

The prince and his bride jetted off this week to a secret honeymoon spot that royal watchers believe was chosen specifically to keep them out of the lenses of the paparazzi.

“That and security would have been of primary importance,” said Joe Little, managing editor of Majesty magazine. “We’ve known for a long time William would not stand for any nonsense regarding his new wife and her family.”

Many Britons — mindful of how Princess Diana was tracked by the paparazzi in the moments leading to her fatal car crash — want the new royal couple, and the rest of the Middleton clan, to be able to move about without facing a constant barrage of flashing cameras.

“I think they should be left alone to be honest, after what happened to Lady Diana,” said Marla Quinn, a 43 year-old receptionist from Surrey.

The nation has been astir with news that “death photos” of Diana moments after her high-speed crash in a Paris tunnel will be shown in a new film about her death, “Unlawful Killing,” premiering at the Cannes Film Festival.

The Middleton family’s complaint cites four British tabloids — the News of the World, Daily Mail, the Mail on Sunday and the Daily Mirror — for publishing photos that violated family privacy, including those of the sisters and William on the luxury boat off the coast off the Mediterranean island of Ibiza.

Other pictures of Pippa Middleton have also received wide exposure on the Internet and in various publications, including one of her dancing suggestively in a lavender bra and a flimsy white skirt with an unidentified man wearing boxer shorts. Sensitive pictures of younger brother James Middleton have also circulated on the Internet.

The independent press commission will determine whether the newspapers have violated the Middletons’ privacy and whether there are any “public right to know” issues that might justify publication of the photos.

While freedom of speech is protected in the United States by the First Amendment, European law protects privacy as well as free expression, often leaving it to judges to balance the two competing concerns.

A key European Court of Human Rights judgment in 2004 bolstered privacy protection by ruling that three German magazines infringed on Princess Caroline of Monaco’s privacy by publishing photos of her and her children at a Monaco beach club.

The recent British newspaper coverage, including front-page photos of Pippa Middleton in a bikini, reflects her status as a surprise star of the royal wedding.

Her appearance in a figure-flattering Alexander McQueen gown at the wedding has sparked a flurry of interest, including the establishment of a Pippa Middleton appreciation page on Facebook.

Experts believe her newfound fame offers a raft of commercial opportunities — but could be undone if more embarrassing photos surface.

Katrina Kutchinsky, managing director of KK Communications, which represents luxury restaurants and bars, said Pippa Middleton is in high demand on the London nightlife scene.

“She’s definitely the hot ticket at the moment, my venues are trying to reach her, but she’s very well protected,” Kutchinsky said. “Everyone is talking about her.”

I”m not pregnant! Katie Holmes denies reports that she is expecting baby number two

1:41 AM on 12th May 2011

When photos emerged of Katie Holmes sporting a noticeably rounder stomach during a shopping trip last week, many publication rushed to report that she was pregnant.

One U.S. magazine even printed a front-page story claiming the actress had confirmed: “Yes, I”m pregnant!”

But her spokesperson has denied the claims, and rather than simply putting Miss Holmes”s appearance down to a big lunch, she says she thinks these pictures have been photoshopped.

“She”s not pregnant and this photo looks doctored,” Ina Treciokas told E! News on Monday.

The 32-year-old”s slightly protruding belly was obvious beneath her tight-fitting top and jeans as she browsed the shoe department of Barney”s New York in Beverly Hills.

Mail Online has spoken to the picture agency Xposure who confirm that the pictures were not altered in any way.

“We never doctor pictures to make anyone look fat, thin, pregnant, and so on. We have not doctored these pictures,” Xposure”s David Taylor says.

OK magazine in the US claimed that Miss Holmes told friends she is expecting.

When she became pregnant with daughter Suri in 2005 Miss Holmes waited, as normal, until she had passed her first trimester to make the announcement, despite growing speculation in the press.

The pregnancy did come as a surprise to many when it was confirmed in October 2005, given that Holmes and Tom Cruise had only known each other six months.

The couple went public with their romance in May of that year but many were suspicious of the relationship given that they both had major blockbusters to promote at the time.

But just eight weeks later, Cruise, now 48, held a press conference in Paris to tell journalists he had proposed to Miss Holmes.

The couple married in Bracciano, Italy in November 2006 following Suri”s birth in April.

Since marrying Cruise, Miss Holmes has struggled to revive her acting career, appearing in a few flops.

Her made-for-television movie The Kennedys was dumped by the History Channel in the US for apparently being historically inaccurate.

A rep for the network at the time said: “While the film is produced and acted with the highest quality, after viewing the final product in its totality, we have concluded this dramatic interpretation is not a fit for the History brand.

“We recognise historical fiction is an important medium for storytelling and commend all the hard work and passion that has gone into the making of the series, but ultimately deem this as the right programming decision for our network.”

A spokesperson for Miss Holmes and Cruise was unavailable for comment.

She is usually a firm believer that when it comes to make-up more is more.

But as glamour model Katie Price, 32, enjoyed a night out with toy boy Leandro Penna last night, she decided to hold back on the war paint, opting instead to show off her natural good looks with minimal make-up.

Price was enjoying a night out with her boyfriend and her friend, make-up artist Gary Cockerill, in Soho, where the group visited Balans bar.

Price was dressed in a pair of tight jeans and an off-the-shoulder cream knitted jumper which emphasised her extremely dark tan.

The mother-of-three had her bleached locks loose around her shoulders and added a flash of colour with bright pink nails.

Penna, 26, was wearing a grey jumper and ripped grey jeans and appeared extremely protective of Price. He held her hand tightly and ushered her into their car as they headed home at the end of the evening.

It was at this point that Price turned her own camera on the paparazzi.

Price had sparked rumours, albeit with a large helping of scepticism, that she and Penna were engaged when she wore a huge ring on her engagement finger at a book signing last week.

But while she was ring-free last night she kept her new tattoo, which she had completed on her most recent visit to South America, under the sleeve of her jumper.
