It's always a grim prospect forcing oneself to exercise during the cold winter months.

But it appears The West Wing star Oliver Platt is taking a practical approach.

The 51-year-old saddled up astride an old-fashioned black bike to make his way home via New York's meatpacking district after enjoying lunch with friend Kevin Bacon.

The stars left Cafe Cuny in the West Village together- Oliver dressed casually in red cords, while Kevin opted for slim fit jeans.

Kevin didn't appear to be feeling especially sociable however, as he had already plugged himself into his iPod.

Likewise Oliver wasn't looking in the best of spirits, however that might have been down to the cold weather.

The actor appeared to be feeling the chill, as he donned two coats before cycling off on his old-school wheels, complete with a practical large basket.

Oliver has just finished work on the forthcoming adaption of Marie Phillips' novel Gods Behaving badly- currently in post-production.

Set in New York, the story follows 12 Gods of Mount Olympus as they mingle with ordinary people and become tangled in their lives.

The Huff actor has taken the role of Apollo, Ancient Greek god of light and the sun.

Directed by Marc Turtletaub of Little Miss Sunshine fame, the film also stars Alicia Silverstone, Christopher Walken as Zeus, and Sharon Stone as Aphrodite.

The film is due to be released later this year.
