Obese opera singer sheds 11 stone so he can fit in airline seat

An obese opera singer spent years avoiding air travel as he worried his 30st frame would get wedged in the narrow cabin seats.
But now Sion Goronwy Jones, 38, from Rhyduchaf, Wales, has conquered his fear of flying after shedding 11 stone.
The talented musician who previously wore size 52 jeans and XXXXXL shirts had tried several weight-loss methods including the Atkins and Low GI diet but as a last resort decided to join a local slimming club.

Describing his flying phobia, he said: 'Travelling on aeroplanes was always a nightmare, being six foot seven was a problem enough with leg space.
'And then being around 30 stone or even bigger maybe, at the time added another huge problem with needing an extension belt.Not the most dignifying thing to have to ask for.'

'I was always conscious of trying to
lose weight, trying to walk more, managing to lose some but then getting
stuck again, or someone commenting on my size sending me over the edge
again,' said Sion.
With support from his slimming group he managed to give up his unhealthy diet of fast food and fizzy drinks winning him the title of Man of the Year.
He is now looking forward to the prospect of securing more serious opera role as well as pursuing an acting career.
The 6' 7″ singer added: 'I now have a huge boost in confidence, being more confident in appearance and being able to shop for clothes on the high street without having to go to specialised stores.'
Sion's health has also improved, with lower blood pressure and cholesterol level.
