Now we can all get our hands on Elizabeth Taylor”s $116m gems as replica site puts “tribute” jewellery on sale
For those of us who dream of one day emulating the timeless glamour of the late Liz Taylor, our dreams have now come true.
As bidding started at Christie”s auction house this week for some of Dame Taylor”s most treasured assets, Overstock.com seized on the opportunity to cash in on the diamond frenzy fueled by the sale by launching their own collection of affordable “tributes”.
While pieces such as the famous Krupp diamond given to Taylor by then husband Richard Burton have fetched a whopping $8.8 million at the New York auction house, Overstock.com is charging just $60.29 for what they call the Ultimate CZ Platinum over Silver Cubic Zirconia Ring- not quite the same ring to it as the Krupp.

Aside from the aforementioned 33.19-carat diamond ring, inspiration for the Overstock.com collection comes from pieces like the bow of diamonds brooch, designed by Van Cleef & Arpels in around 1925 that now has a selling estimate of $60,000-80,000. (The brooch on the mainstream retail website costs just $89.99.)
And of course no LizTaylor tribute collection would be complete without a reinterpretation of theiconic Taylor-Burton diamond that Burton bought for his wife in 1969.
Taylor, who passed away in in March atage 79, is best remembered for her outstanding beauty on the silver screen and appeared in classics such as Cleopatra, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.

Butanyone familiar with the screen siren will also remember her for the impressive collection of precious jewels gifted to her by friends like Michael Jackson, her numerous suitors, and bought by the actress herself.
Many of her bracelets, necklaces and rings were designed by the most prestigious names in luxury including Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels and Chopard.
The sale of famous jewels is not a newphenomenon, of course. Celebrities like Jennifer Lopez and Ellen Barkin have re-sold and auctioned off the jewels bestowed upon them by their exes for no small fortune.

But until Taylor”s estate was put up for auction, the most sought after imitation piece this year has most likely been the “Kate Middleton Replica Engagement Ring, The Most Famous Royal Engagement Ring,” available on Amazon for $49.99 and other jewelry retailers worldwide.
Aspokesperson for Christie”s said the famous Krupp diamond was purchasedby an anonymous private buyer from Asia.
With Christmas spending estimated to measure up to last year”s figures, Overstock.com will no doubt provide a useful resource for those looking to buy their loved ones something special without burning a hole in their bank accounts. Taylor”s jewelry was perhaps one of the most exceptional collections in recent times and provides inspiration for lovers of bling everywhere.
Old lovers: Dame Elizabeth Taylor and twice divorced husband Richard Burton in later years
The two main pieces up for grabs on Overstock.com are inspired by gifts given to Taylor by husband Richard Burton with whom she had what was recognised as a volatile relationship and could therefore be seen by anyone superstitious as a symbol of a blighted romance. Others will no doubt see the pieces only as a tribute to a Hollywood legend and a couple famous for their passion.
The two actors met while still married and embarked on an affair condemned by the Vatican as “erotic vagrancy” before divorcing their partners and marrying each other. Such was the torrid nature of their relationship they divorced each other in 1974 only to marry and divorce again within two years.
Dame Elizabeth Taylor died in Los Angeles on March 23rd, 2011. The auction of her jewels at Christie”s has shattered records by fetching almost $116 million in total while top bids on her couture collection continue to astonish eager buyers and auctioneers alike.
