Who was that stunner in red on the arm of Labour leader Ed Miliband this week Any guesses
Gossip columnists stop salivating, it was none other than his wife Justine Thornton.
Two years into the job as Labour’s first lady, she has gone from mouse to fashion maven.

Head-turner: Ed Miliband's wife Justine Thornton wows the Labour Party conference in a slashed neck dress and LK Bennett nude heels (left) favoured by the Duchess of Cambridge and a 295 Joseph number (right)
Looking svelte and sophisticated in slashed neck dress and LK Bennett nude heels – the favourite of Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge no less – she no longer looked like a harassed working mum, but more like a polished political consort.
The first time we became aware of Justine was following her husband’s election as party leader in 2010, when – being heavily pregnant – her wardrobe was understandably more functional than stylish.
Then last year, we saw her, still carrying a little baby weight, looking frumpy beyond her years in a dowdy navy suit and a severe, short haircut.
Remarkable transformation: Last year, Justine was carrying a little baby weight, looking frumpy beyond her years in a dowdy navy suit and a severe, short haircut
Twelve months later, as she swanned into the 2012 Labour Party Conference this week, with gentle finger curls which had been expertly highlighted, threaded eyebrows and slim, athletic hips, there wasn’t a woman in the room who wouldn’t have loved to slip into that QVC dress.
A steal at 48! Ed must be delighted.
So how did Justine achieve her the remarkable transformation We asked the experts…
From mouse to fashion maven: Her hair has been livened up with what looks like two-tone highlights in flattering blonde
Celebrity hairdresser Paul Edmonds says: ‘Justine Miliband’s newly highlighted hair is a knockout!
'It shows a for more glamorous side to the party leader’s wife that she’s sorely needed — and it’s finally been brushed off her face.
'The mousy hair has been livened up with what looks like two-tone highlights in flattering blonde to give a prettier, more feminine look.
'As for the curls, they soften her features and really show off her big blue eyes. This look really is a winner all round.’
Perfectly framed face: Previously heavy and slug-like, Justine's brows are now slim and perfectly arched around the eye
‘The secret behind Justine Thornton’s new look is all in her eyebrows,’ says make-up artist Amanda Clarke.
‘Previously heavy and slug-like, Justine’s brows are now slim and perfectly arched around the eye.
'Only expert threading can deliver a clean, flattering re-shape like that, and I’d say she’s had her brows professionally tinted at the same time. The result A perfectly-framed face that appears lifted. She is a woman transformed.
‘Looking at earlier pictures where she’s made less effort with her make-up, Justine’s face appears very flat and washed out. But for the party conference, Justine’s complexion is radiant.
'She’s used a light creamy eyeshadow with very fine light-reflecting particles to boost luminosity, plus a very light grey applied in the socket line to add depth.
'She’s used a subtle liner in her lash line which, with several coats of mascara, make her eyes look fuller and more youthful.
‘Her skin has a fresh, peachy finish and just a tiny dab of highlighter on the apples of her cheeks is the finishing touch that makes her look radiant.
'Whatever happens at the party conference, Justine has the flush of success.’
