She's known as the glamorous multi-millionaire founder of lingerie empire Ultimo. But when she’s not in the boardroom, Michelle Mone (pictured) is also a mother-of-three under pressure to look her best. Here, as the 40-year-old launches a new self-tan range, she reveals her beauty secrets…
What are your biggest beauty indulgences
I have very sensitive skin and I break out if I get nervous, so I spend a lot of money on skincare. I switch between Creme de la Mer, 600 (harveynichols.com) and La Prairie Skin Caviar Luxe Cream, 474 (harrods.com). If my skin is going through a period of being very dry, I opt for the Creme de la Mer, as it is so hydrating. But I also swear by Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser, 14.25 (lizearle.com).

Can you describe your make-up routine
I am not a fan of foundation, as I find it clogs my skin. But I do use a small amount of facial tanner (UTan, from 22.50, Selfridges), as it gives me all the coverage I need, and is subtle. I also apply a light brown lip pencil (MAC ‘Oak’, 10.50, mac cosmetics.co.uk) all over, and a layer of Lancome Juicy Tube (15.50, House of Fraser) for gloss.
On my eyes, I use Chanel shadow in Sparkling Satins (37, Boots) and YSL mascara (23, Debenhams). I also use Optrex Eye Dew Dazzling Eye Drops (4.15, Superdrug) when my eyes are tired. I’m obsessed with my eyebrows, so I always have La Tweez Illuminating Tweezers (14, highlifeshop.com) handy — they light up, so it’s easy to catch stray hairs. Applying my everyday make-up takes just six minutes.

Having lost more than six stone, do you have any advice for keeping the weight off
I was once a size 22, nearly 18 st, and so unfit I couldn’t even walk to the end of the road without getting out of breath. I started losing weight by taking small steps such as running to the lamp post, then pushing myself further each time.
MICHELLE'S TAN: OUR VERDICT
A successful self-tanning product must be easy to apply, streak-free, fragrant and, above all, it must deliver a natural, glowy colour.
The new UTan range is multi-tasking and products also include anti-ageing ingredients.
Lotions include Marbella Gold (for a smooth honey-gold tint) or Ibiza Extreme (a glamorous deep bronze), 28.50 each.
If you prefer a mousse, choose from California Sun (a rich golden tone) and Brazilian Bronze (an instant bronze tint), 25.50 each.
Our favourite is the Ibiza Extreme lotion, which was tested by three women with different skin tones, which produced a deep, natural-looking, even tan.
The colour took three hours to develop and lasted five days.

Now I run or go to the gym for an hour
each day. If you take that hour for yourself you will feel better and
think more clearly.
I also use a supplement to help speed-up my
metabolism (TrimSecrets, 14.95). Taking it 30 minutes before a meal
means I eat less. I have a better body now, age 40, than I had at 17.
What beauty tips have you passed on to your own daughters
Good skincare is the most important thing. I’ve just bought my youngest daughter, who is 11 years old, the Cleansing Gel (11) and Daily Energiser Cream (20, Debenhams) from Clarins. I’ve also told both of my girls not to use soap on their faces, as it is very drying.
Do you, or have you ever, sunbathed
In Glasgow, where I’m from, there is a culture of lying out in the summer sun — and, when the sun isn’t out, I confess, I did use sunbeds. But recently I had to have a mole removed, leaving a scar, and I was told it was due to sunbed damage. So now I don’t use them, and opt for self-tanning instead.
When I decided to create my own range of self-tanning products, I wanted products that didn’t streak or make you look like you’ve been tangoed.
How do you get your hair glossy
I get my hair blow-dried four or five times a week. Yes, I know that sounds ridiculous, but if I walk into the boardroom with clean, bouncy hair I feel good and that helps me seal a deal. You can’t go into an important meeting with flat, greasy hair. If I have an early start, I have a blow-dry the night before, spray my hair with dry shampoo and go to bed with pin curls in. I have been known to go straight to the airport with my curlers in — it’s worth it.
Any tips for women scared of baring all on the beach this summer
When I am pale I feel I look bigger, so a fast trick to look slimmer instantly is to apply self-tanner to your arms, legs and tummy areas. I would also advise picking up a flattering one-piece swimsuit with a tummy control panel to pull you in, or opt for high-waisted bikini bottoms if you prefer wearing a two-piece.
A FRAGRANCE FIT FOR THE QUEEN
Royal perfumers Floris have created six special-edition bottles of scent — costing a staggering 15,000 each — to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
Royal Arms Diamond Edition still has the same key ingredients of their original fragrance, which was created in 1926, but with a contemporary twist.
The antique bottles used for the special version were found by chance in Floris’s warehouse —originally sourced from Italy, they had been stored there since 1914. It also features an exquisite white diamond, seen on a chain around the bottle, by jewellers Just Castings.
As sole perfumers to The Queen, the first Diamond Edition bottle will be presented to Her Majesty later this month. Another bottle will go to charity, one will remain in the Floris museum and three will be for sale.
