Although she recently signed a new 12-month contract, the blonde star says she is unlikely to stay after that.

She told The Sun: 'I will be in the show until this time next year but I think she would sue me after that.

'My daughter has her GCSEs next year. I want to be around to support her so I’ll have to take time out.

'I find it really difficult working in Manchester and then coming back to London to be a mum. I don’t want to unsettle Maia.'

Since her first scenes in Corrie last June, Stella has taken over running the Rover's Return and made peace with her long-lost daughter Leanne Barlow.

However, her relationship to Karl Munro (John Michie) is currently on rocky ground due to his gambling and his affair with married Sunita Alahan (Shobna Gulati).

When she was cast as Stella last year, Corrie's executive Producer Kieran Roberts said: 'Michelle's acting credentials are first class with more than a decade leading some brilliant and memorable drama series.

'I am certain she is going to be fantastic as the warm, funny, steely, flawed and larger-than-life northern matriarch Stella.

'Karl and Stella's fiery marriage is sure to keep viewers hooked through 2011 and beyond.'

Although she initially attracted criticism from fans with her Mancunian accent, she has since settled in and become popular with viewers.

Michelle became a household name as the cheating, scheming wife of Ian Beale on EastEnders.

She played the villainous character for ten years from 1988 to 1998.
