Alice Temperley's classic John Lewis collection has something to suit every woman: Liz Jones praises the melding of two very English brands

If I were to choose one designer who best suits Kate Middleton, it has to be Alice Temperley.
There is something demure and English about her work, and although the Somerset-born designer missed out when Kate chose her wedding gown, she remains a stalwart of the royal wardrobe.
And now, happily for the rest of us, Alice Temperley is available at a tenth of her usual price.

She has designed the Somerset by Alice Temperley capsule wardrobe for John Lewis and this melding of two very English brands is inspired.
Whatever your age, there is something to suit, in sizes up to an 18. The silk blouses would look great on a woman in her 80s, or on a teen with cut-off shorts.
There’s a black jersey dress with soft sleeves that will work well for the office (99), and I’d buy a pretty blue and white print silk blouse with tie neck (89).

I think the leopard leggings and the high-neck maxi dress, will date, but the collection does contain what I think are the best black trousers I have ever found: in crepe, with a high waist, and softly draped to the ankle, which you can roll up to wear with flats, or down with heels.
They are 99, and have already sold out at the Oxford Street branch. A classic in the making.
