'I don't know what's wrong with her. I was thinking it over recently and one day I packed my bags and left.

'There was nothing else I could do. She was driving me insane.'

Speaking to Caras magazine in his native Argentina, he added: 'That's it, there's no going back.

'Katie is totally crazy. What started beautifully in February last year has now come to an end.'

Leo's attack is in stark contrast to Katie's version of events.

She took to her blog on Tuesday night to announce to fans they had gone their separate ways after she had attended the Skyfall premiere in London..

And Katie even implied it had been left amicably, while insisting they will 'remain the best of friends'.

In a statement she said: 'Leo and I have had a lovely fun time for a couple of years, we will always feel deep affection for each other, but sometimes relationships just run their course.

'Pressures of work on different continents, natural demands of family ties, and careers, have meant we have spent a huge amount of time apart even when we were in the same country. This meant it was difficult for the relationship to move forward.

'Accordingly we've mutually decided to call it a day, but we really wish each other nothing but the very best and will remain best of friends, whoever he eventually settles down with will be a very lucky girl.'

Earlier this month it was reported Katie was planning on dumping Leo.

She was said to be annoyed he had not got a job and expected everything to be handed to him on a plate.

Previously her spokesman denied claims her relationship with Leandro was on the rocks, after it was revealed Katie had exchanged a series of texts with X-Factor hopeful Dan Ferrari-Lane, 18.

Katie insisted their relationship was 'entirely innocent and platonic'.

Leandro and Katie met in February 2011 at the Oscars.

They broke up eight months later after Leo spoke publicly about wanting to marry Katie.

They got back together shortly afterward and subsequently announced their engagement.

Katie made two trips to Argentina to meet his parents in his home city of Cordoba and to appear alongside him on Argentina's version of Strictly Come Dancing.

Her break-up comes as she's had to dispel speculation her split was
contributed to thanks to alleged flirty messages between herself and The

According to the Sunday Mirror, the 34-year-old had been sending coquettish text messages to the 18-year-old from the show's band District3.

But she also took the opportunity to rubbish the reports as she announced the split.

She wrote: 'Quite separately, it is unfortunate that this separation coincides with some utterly ridiculous and silly stories about a boy band member.

'This has nothing to do with the ending of Kate and Leo's relationship and her contact with the boy band member has been entirely innocent and platonic.

'It is shame that certain magazines are seeking to make more of it.'
