Tory Burch is an Uptown girl to the core. And so, too, were the front row at her New York Fashion Week show today, which counted some of Manhattan's most prominent society names.
Lauren Bush Lauren and Aerin Lauder were among the glossy-maned, casually-but-expensively-clad guests, which also included British fashion mogul Tamara Mellon and Vogue editor Anna Wintour.
The designer, who clearly knows her market well, delivered a collection steeped in Upper East Side polish.

She referenced the Thirties and Forties with pencil skirts, suiting and fitted coats, all styled with structured handbags, elbow-length gloves and T-bar shoes.
The models' mussed up-dos and Alice bands completed the theme, which continued into full-length gowns for eveningwear.

Ms Burch explained that her muse for the
fall/winter 2012 season was a shelterd, well-to-do young woman who was
running off with a bit of a bad boy.
'This is about understated sexy,' she said in an interview with the Associated Press before the show.
'The picture I had was a young woman, maybe unaware of her
own sex appeal, and she gets on the back of a motorcycle with someone
who her parents wouldn't want her to be with.'

The muse's good-girl side was clearly
evident in the neatly-tied scarf at one neck, or the pearls on another.
Or indeed the opague coloured tights on every pair of legs.
But each look had that rebel edge, be it the more overt leather trousers, or the more subtle sequin check.
Ms Burch admitted she opened the show with one of her favourite pieces – a
cropped peplum sweater decorated with red, white and navy hand-painted
stripes – that she said would most definitely be finding its way into
