She's certainly not one to shy away from the latest hair trends.

But while Lady Gaga frequently changes up her look to surprise her fans, the singer's latest look is anything but a fashion statement.

The 26-year-old singer decided to shave the back of her head to mark the passing of her close friend Terry Richardson's mother.

Gaga tweeted a picture of her new look, which appeared to show her brown hair pulled into a high bun on top of her head with a shaved section beneath.

She accompanied the shot with the caption: 'I did it for u Terry. I'm sorry about ure mommy. She has princess die, but were all princess high.'

Gaga's comment also made reference to her most recent song, Princess D.I.E, which she wrote in tribute to the late Princess Diana.

The new look came after Terry informed fans of his mother's passing on his Tumblr page.

He wrote: 'R.I.P. Annie Lomax, My Mom 1938-2012.'

An accompanying caption on Terry's website underneath a picture of Annie read: 'Terry’s love of his mother is inspiring. His touching, candid photos of her are some of my favourites.

'He captured all her crazy joy so beautifully. My heart aches for him.'

As well as a photograph of Annie smiling on his Tumblr page, Terry also documented his mother's final moments in pictures.

In addition to a shot of Annie on breathing support, Terry also shared a picture of a bunch of flowers he had sent his mother, as well as a shot of him holding her hand which he caption: 'The last picture I took of my mom.'
