Joan Rivers injects daughter with fertility treatment after practising on an orange – but would you trust her with a needle
Getting along with your mother well enough to live with her is one thing.
But trusting her to inject you with a needle is another – especially when that matriarchal figure just so happens to be Joan Rivers.
The comedienne, who refuses to let her 78 years dictate when she should resign from showbiz, was forced to give Melissa the drug after boyfriend Jason Zimmerman walked out last September.
Trust: Joan Rivers helps daughter Melissa with her fertility injection on their reality show after she has a bust-up with boyfriend Jason
Ever the joker, Joan has made light of the situation on Twitter: 'It was so hard for me to give Melissa her fertility drug injection after Jason walked out! It’s a good thing I never became a junkie. #JKB'
Despite the drama unfolding at the end of last year, the Rivers duo are in the spotlight again with the second series of Joan And Melissa: Joan Knows Best premiering in the US last month.
During the latest episode, New Yorker Joan can be seen embracing her motherly duties by stepping in for Jason and jabbing Melissa with the needle – but of course, practising on a trusty orange first.
Comforting: Joan offers her daughter a back rub after she is visibly upset with her head in her hands
Bad body language: Melissa and Jason had a blazing row before he stormed off
Aftermath: Melissa appears to be in pain after she received the injection from her mother
Melissa, 44, called time on the
romance with her long-term and live-in boyfriend after she discovered he
had made several appearances on an adult website.
At the time she said: 'I am still
trying to process what has come to light over the past few days and I
hope that you will respect the privacy of my son and I while we heal.
'Luckily, we are Rivers and always
bounce back! Thanks to all my supportive fans, friends, and co-workers
for their love and support which is carrying us through.'
Practising: Joan thrust a needle into the orange, before using it on her daughter
Yet it's a wonder she managed to keep her cool, after Jason tarnished her 'hormonal and irrational.'
During the episode, he is seen yelling: 'You know how much I care about this family.
'The fact that I sit there and give you shots, the fact that I'm busting my a** out there, the fact that you have the audacity to bust my b***s about going to a meeting!'
He then makes a shocking parting statement against Melissa's father, Edgar Rosenberg, who committed suicide in 1987, adding: 'I'm not your f****ing father. I'm not going to end up like him!'
Stressful: Melissa tries to unwind in a bath, but looks close to tears
