The night before they looked a little less glamorous than their onscreen alter-egos. But tonight the cast of Mad Men cleaned up their act – with a necessary shave for star Jon Hamm, and a figure-hugging LBD for January Jones at the official AMC premiere of the show's Season Five.

January, 34, stepped out in a risque little black dress with cutouts at the waist. showing off a slither of her toned abs and back, as well as a low-cut style at the top, flaunting plenty of her decolletage.

Betty Draper certainly would not approve.

The flirty frock feature a flutter of cream on the frilled fishtail hem.

Clearly
thrilled with her choice of attire, January, who gave birth to her son
Xander in September last year, twirled as she posed for the cameras.

This
time January wore her pink streaked bob in Betty's signature curled
style. Her look was quite a contrast to her 60s style tunic yesterday.

The actress was also joined by her on-screen ex-husband Jon Hamm, who arrived on the arm of his long-term partner Jennifer Westfeldt.

The 42-year-old actress nearly stole the spotlight from her man, looking gorgeous in a bright green strapless dress.

Hamm's
Mad Men alter-ego Don Draper would have certainly approved of the
41-year-old's own attire consisting of a grey suit, crisp white shirt
and precious metal tie.

While the 12-year-old looked older
than young years, she was age appropriate in a pale pink and silver
dress paired with beige shoes featuring a small platform heel.

Jon
and January's characters has been split since season three in the plot
and have since moved on, with Betty now married to Henry Francis and Don
proposing to his secretary Megan Calvert (Jessica Par) during the
cliff-hanger last episode of season four.

Fans of the show will be keen to see how the fifth season will kick off after it culminated in a shock proposal from Don.

Don surprised viewers by choosing a
relationship with the straight-forward young secretary over one with
clever doctor Faye Miller who knew the truth about his past and
unfaithful personality.

During a recent interview with The Huffington Post, Jon discussed Don's new relationship with Megan.

He agreed that Don's new relationship might finally let him be open to being loved.

'Part of Don’s baggage is this sense of keeping everything so close to the vest,' he said.

'This
was the fundamental issue with Betty — there was no room to really be
vulnerable or be loved, because it was all held back by this secret and
not from an unwillingness to share, an unwillingness to open up.'

He
also hinted that the relationship may be a mistake for Don, after his
character popped the question after only a matter of weeks of knowing
her.

'…There is the scene, the really
great scene with when Joan and Peggy are like, “That’s the kind of
person that person marries.” They have this moment where they are like,
“What is this guy doing”'

confirm or deny anything about the new season. They're engaged but I
can't tell you if the wedding has (happened) or will actually happen.’

Additionally, writer Matthew Weiner
has added to the intrigue ahead of the new series launch by revealing
that the theme of this season will be 'every man for himself'.

He added: 'There are always curve balls.
If you could plan it out, it’s no fun. I don’t want the audience to be
bored, and I don’t want to be bored.'
