It won't launch for days, but Jason Wu for Target is already on eBay (and items are going for up to TEN TIMES the store value)
We were pretty jealous when we spotted Blake Lively, Jamie King and Chloe Moretz in Jason Wu for Target last week.
The collection, after all, doesn't hit stores till Sunday, and when it does, the best pieces are likely to sell out within hours.
But thanks to some enterprising guests at the star-studded launch party, who managed to get their hands on items early, fans of the designer can already snap up their favourite pieces on eBay.
Early birds: Blake Lively (left), Jamie King (centre) and Chloe Moretz (right) last week, all dressed head-to-toe in Jason Wu for Target at a party in honour of the upcoming line. Since then, items have appeared on eBay
Of course buyers should expect to pay a premium – items are being listed at many times the price they
will eventually retail for.
The floral printed skirt worn by Hart of Dixie actress Jamie King, for example, is on sale for $229. When it eventually goes on sale, it will cost just $29.99.
Blake Lively's trench is another must-have available on the site. But the $54.99 coat, which is navy with white piping, will cost buyers $369 if they want to wear it before the rest of the Target masses.
Supply and demand: Though Jason Wu for Target doesn't launch till Sunday, several must-have items are already on eBay – and selling for up to ten times the in-store price tags
Even the canvas totes are costing twice the in-store price. The Milu cat-print shopper, which will retail for $39.99, is selling for $99.99 on eBay.
Sellers may be being a little over-optimistic in placing such high 'Buy It Now' prices on their eBay lots though. Fashionista.com, which first reported the story, notes that there aren't many bids on the Jason Wu for Target items.
The site points out: 'The frenzy surrounding Jason Wu hasn’t quite hit the Missoni level… We're willing to give Target another chance on this one.'
It recommends braving Target stores
early on Sunday morning, and if that fails, then try eBay. Chances are,
prices will be cheaper by then too.
Very First Lady-like: Images of the collection reveal a demure
offering with plenty of Fifties and Sixties shapes
Since Target's collaboration with the
First Lady favourite was announced last year, the fashion set has been
counting down to its launch on February 5.
And with prices ranging from just $19.99 to $59.99, it promises to offer something for every budget.
The collaboration is a major coup for the 29-year-old designer, who is of Taiwanese origin, but is based in the U.S.
Though he is already a well-known name, the association with Target promises to make his star rise higher still.
