As one of the highest earning models of the Eighties Yasmin Le Bon”s career continues to flourish 27 years later.
Already this year she has fronted Moschino”s summer campaign and walked for London label Issa.
Now in a revealing interview the 46-year-old British Iranian beauty refreshingly describes how her line of work has caused her to adopt unhealthy habits, giving some weight to myths shrouding the fashion industry.
The wife of Duran Duran”s lead singer Simon Le Bon admits that she has been addicted to exercise, even doing squats while cooking and some days survived on nothing more the “odd bread roll”.
A model”s life: Yasmin Le Bon has revealed in a recent interview that she has been addicted to exercise and lived on the “odd bread roll” in her heyday
After three children Mrs Le Bon still has her youthful looks and could easily be mistaken for her 21-year-old daughter Amber who has followed in her mother”s footsteps fronting a number of campaigns.
But it seems that the Oxford-born model has had to work had to keep her 5ft 9 frame in catwalk condition.
She told Harper”s Bazaar: “I”ve definitely had an issue with over-exercising at times, and I had to give it all up for a year or two to let my body mend.
“It sounds ridiculous, but exercise is addictive – it draws you in and you ignore the pain, so I”m careful now.
Catwalk queen: Wife of singer Simon Le Bon, 46-year-old Yasmin adopted some unhealthy addictions as a model
“I was doing Pilates three times a week, martial arts virtually every days, and hours of cardio in the gym, but I was doing too much.”
But old habits die hard as the mother of Tallulah, Saffron, and Amber says that she still follows an exercise regime, even toning up around the house.
“When I”m cooking I”m always doing squats and lunges while waiting for the pans to boil.”
She also describes that she likes to eat less during the day and then have larger but “not huge” meals in the evening.
But this is a considerably healthier approach to when she was modelling full time: “Back then, I lived off the odd bread roll if I waslucky.”
Mrs Le Bon was first spotted at the age of 17 when she was working as a part-time shop assistant in Oxfordshire.
Youthful appeal: 46-year-old Yasmin Le Bon could be mistaken for her 21-year-old model daughter, Amber
Signed by a local agency most of her early work consisted of hand modelling and advertising for businesses.
But after being snapped up by Models 1 she became a firm favourite with an array of designers from Karl Lagerfeld to Versace and has appeared on over 400 magazine covers.
She adds: “I know that now my body needs to be heavier – I”m over a stone more than I used to be.”
