She may not look uncomfortable but Shirley Maclaine has admitted she 'hated' wearing the Downton Abbey costumes.
The Hollywood star, who describes herself as a jogging pants and tennis shoes' type of woman said the extravagance of the costumes put her off.
Maclaine, who plays Cora's American mother Martha Levinson, appears in two episodes where she clashes with Dowager Countess if Grantham.
Extravagant: Shirley Maclaine said she hated wearing the Downton costumes as she is more of a joggers type of woman
Speaking to The Sunday Express before her screen debut, she said: 'I hated to put all that stuff on, I'm not one for wardrobe,'
But she revealed the shoot, at Highclere Castle in Hampshire, was a dream come true.
'Now that's a once in a lifetime experience to shoot in such a hallowed place,
'I enjoyed very, very much that castle and the grounds and the past and the haunting.'

It has been revealed the next eight episodes, expected to hit screens in September, will be at a much slower pace than the furious First World War series.
Earlier on this year, some of the cast were caught in a typical British downpour which affected the show to a certain extent.
Speaking on Radio 2’s Weekend Wogan, star of the show Hugh Bonneville said the relentless April showers had taken its toll on the set and some scenes were being adjusted or 'rescheduled.'
Just typical: The cast and crew of the show had to 'reschedule' filming of the next series when Britain experienced a lot of rain earlier this year
Cast were spotted clutching large umbrellas as they did their best to continue filming the drama despite the terrible weather.
MacLaine, who won the best actress Oscar in 1983 for Terms Of Endearment and was nominated for a further six Academy Awards, began filming with the rest of the cast in February and the next series is set to air on ITV1 in September.

When it was first announced that MacLaine would be joining the cast, producer Gareth Neame, said: 'My late grandfather directed Shirley MacLaine in Gambit in 1966 so it is a delight for me that she will be joining us on Downton Abbey.
'Julian (Fellowes) has written another brilliant character in Martha Levinson, who will be a wonderful combatant for Maggie Smith's Dowager Countess and we are excited at the prospect of Shirley MacLaine playing her.'
