Thousands of women all over the world cringed when Bridget Jones' granny knickers were exposed during a steamy date. And it seems we are taking precautions to make sure we don't find ourselves in a similar situation.
A survey has revealed than an astonishing 43 per cent of women carry around a pair of sexy pants in their handbags… just in case.

While many of us choose Bridget-style
sculpting underwear for special occasions – or even for every day wear –
60 per cent of would never admit it, even to long-term partners.
So a secret pair of knickers hidden away is an essential – to change into if a date goes better than planned.
We needn't worry too much, though. Fourty per cent of men questioned by Sainsbury's said that they would not blink an eyelid if their date
was wearing Shapewear.

The survey, of 2,500 adults also revealed surprising statistics about the kind of underwear we buy depending on our size.
It found that slim, size 8 women are most likely to wear sensible cotton pants while size 16s prefer sexier matching sets.
Size 14 women, meanwhile, are the most likely to wear a
suspender belt or to sometimes not even bother with underwear at all.

But even those of us who do not tend to
worry too much about what bra and knickers we are wearing will be making
a bit of an effort next Tuesday.
More than half of all British women (54 per cent – which is more than 15 million ladies) will select special underwear for a Valentine’s
date, and a third of the nation’s women will even invest in new
lingerie for the occasion.

Lingerie Buyer said: 'This survey really highlights that women are
embracing their curves and feeling confident about their figures.
might expect classic model-sized ladies to be more confident and
adventurous. However it seems that the curvier ladies are more likely to
choose sexier and chic underwear this Valentine’s Day.'

buying more fashion forward underwear this year, and sales are already
up by a quarter this week [compared to the same period last year], indicating that they’re embracing new

trend looking ahead to summer is paler pastel colours with once popular
