This year has already been a brilliant year to be British, and now our style has been given the thumbs up from the world's most fashionable people as Brits scooped the top gongs at tonight's Global Fashion Awards.
Victoria Beckham was named the Womenswear Designer of the Year, the Hall of Fame award went to Londoner and photographer Rankin for his incredible contribution to fashion, and hot British high street brand Topshop took home the Womenswear Design Team award.
British designer Victoria Beckham and British photographer John 'Rankin' Waddell were both winners at the Global Fashion Awards
The Global Fashion Awards recognise and reward brilliance in fashion and retail design across the globe. They are the only fashion awards that enable the winners to lay claim to being the best in the world in their field because they are voted for by a panel of industry specialists.
This is the first year that the awards have been held in the UK and the Savoy ballroom provided a suitably stylish backdrop for the event which was hosted by Cat Deeley and attended by fashion mad celebrities including Pixie Lott, Joanne Froggatt and Mr Hudson as well as the creme de la creme of the design world.
Victoria Beckham couldn't be there in person top pick up her impressive award – she was obviously too busy being fashionable somewhere else – but she did tweet her delight to organisers WGSN: 'Thank you @wgsn, thrilled to win Womenswear Designer @GFashionAwards #GFA2012 ! X vb' she tweeted before posting a video of her spring/summer 2013 catwalk show on her Twitter feed.
